Re: Hurricane Matthew and Florida's Nuclear Reactors
With the world on the verge of nuclear war, nations are waiting to see who pulls the trigger first.

Meanwhile Hurricane Matthew detonates Florida's nukes..

America then declares war on Mother Nature, the "War on Storms" Americans will then pay more taxes for our govt to fight against Mother Nature..

Big Brothers gonna take whats in your pocket somehow!

Florida power outages begin...

" More than 10,000 customers in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties remained in the dark Thursday afternoon as Hurricane Matthew's outerbands whipped through the region, according to Florida Power & Light. "

This is only the 4th time Disney World Orlando has been closed since 1971.

The St Lucie nuclear power plant was shut down at 11AM today.

" As the storm neared the coast Thursday afternoon, Florida began to lock down. Disney World announced it would close at 5 p.m. and remain closed Friday, the first time since Hurricane Wilma more than a decade ago. Florida Power & Light shut down its St. Lucie nuclear power plant, just south of Ft. Pierce, at 11 a.m., and airports in Fort Lauderdale and Orlando closed. "

Thread: PUTIN FLAG PLACED ON NYC MANHATTAN BRIDGE

WOW !!

Putin's birthday is Oct 7.

Putin is famous for speaking symbolically...
and this is a very important symbolic sign
from history... something earth-shaking that
also happened in October.

Who else here knows what it is ?!!

Maybe this hurricane is Putin's asymmetrical response to the US meddling in Syria.

Re: Hurricane Matthew and Florida's Nuclear Reactors
I always marvel at where they decided to build these nuclear power plants. If they don't have them sitting directly on top of a major seismic fault line, they put them right on the shoreline with no land protection from violent storms.

I bet these same planners would think it was a good idea to build an ammunition factory right over the vent of an active volcano, for pete's sake!

Hey I'm from there, and as long as they aren't within a few hundred feet of the coast they will be fine. They may get some damage but the ones who die in these storms are the ones who live within a stone throw of the waterline, are told to evacuate, and don't. Now, I make no guarantees that they will enjoy the days without power (and ice and gas and god knows what else) that follow....

I'm with you, sweetie! I have the worse tension headache today because my daughter and her husband are staying, too. I even called the authorities yesterday to find out where their shelter would be. They won't go! Their landlord shuttered the windows two days ago. I am frantic! They're near Deerfield Beach.

Re: Hurricane Matthew and Florida's Nuclear Reactors
.

" Two nuclear power plants exist on Florida's eastern coast: the St. Lucie and Turkey Point facilities. Based on the current National Hurricane Center projections, it appears that Hurricane Matthew will come closest to the St. Lucie nuclear facility early Friday morning. Storm surge near the St. Lucie nuclear reactors may reach 2-5 feet, and with hurricane force winds of 130 miles per hour. Meanwhile, a significant water quality problem in the Southeast is the ongoing pollution at Florida Power and Light's (FPL) Turkey Point cooling canal system. It's unclear what effects high winds and storm surge could have on Turkey Point’s open air industrial sewer.

After flooding caused a nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor in Japan, the Miami News Times published an article, "Five reasons Turkey Point could be the next nuclear disaster." The article noted: "Just like in Japan, Turkey Point is susceptible to a meltdown caused by a natural disaster. A hurricane-spurred tidal surge from Turkey Point's neighboring Biscayne Bay could create catastrophic conditions identical to those in Japan. With power down, the plant would be forced to rely on emergency diesel generators to pump water to cool the reactors….those generators would ‘certainly’ become inundated with water from the tidal surge, causing them to drown and fail.' "

Re: Hurricane Matthew and Florida's Nuclear Reactors
they will shoutdown the reactors
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73116280

Of course they will shut them down. Any idea how long you need to keep feeding cooling water to the reactor after it has been shutdown? What if you are not able to keep cooling the reactor by either the pumps have no power (I know backup generators), the backup generators are flooded by tidal surge, the pumps are destroyed due to tidal surge (Ever try running a 4,100VAC motor under water?), or no cooling water because the inlet is block by debris.

I don't see any problems here, move along.

Not Florida. But has anyone considered that the trajectory of the hurricane could perhaps, even be the nuclear submarine base located in Savannah, GA?
