FEC Complaint Accuses Clinton Campaign of Illegally Coordinating With David Brock Super PAC
The Campaign Legal Center filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission on Thursday that accuses the Clinton Campaign of illegally coordinating with David Brock’s Super PAC Correct the Record.

The CLC’s complaint alleges Correct the Record has made $5.95 million in in-kind contributions in the form of coordinated expenditures that were accepted by the Clinton campaign. The complaint alleges such contributions violate the Federal Election Campaign Act (“FECA”), 52 U.S.C. § 30101, et seq., and Commission regulations.

Behind the Clinton campaign: Dark money allies

We already examined Clinton’s biggest super PAC supporters earlier this week, Priorities USA Action and Ready PAC, plus her official campaign PAC. Now we’re going to dive deeper into the dark money supporting Clinton: the money in groups that don’t have to disclose their donors, and the money that moves from those groups to super PACs that support Clinton.

The groups we’re looking at here are all founded by David Brock, a Clinton enemy-turned-ally who runs a number of liberal super PACs and nonprofits. Some of these groups are directly supporting her; others aren’t, but have donated to the groups that do support her. In addition to the groups we’ve outlined here, Brock is also on the board of Priorities USA, and he’s president of a group called the American Independent Institute, which funds “individual journalism projects, with an emphasis on exposing the nexus of conservative power in Washington.” Just a few weeks ago, Brock bought the progressive news site Blue Nation Review, which will now be headed by Peter Daou, Clinton’s former digital strategist and founder of the Hillary Men project. In 2014, Brock became chairman of the board of the ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which is now located at the same offices as all the groups listed below.

All the groups listed below are located in the same offices: 455 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, D.C.

<snip>

Notable donors this cycle to Bridge include American Bridge 21st Century Foundation (more on that in a minute), which gave $1.2 million; philanthropists George Soros and Steve Silberstein, who gave $1 million and $200,000, respectively. NextGen Climate Action Committee also contributed $250,000. We’ve written extensively about how this 501(c)(4) is funded almost entirely by hedge fund manager and environmentalist Tom Steyer.

American Bridge has paid the executive vice president of Media Matters, Angelo Carusone, $3,000 a month for management consulting since January 2014.

David Brock’s money machine looks a lot like a money laundering operation

So who is this Bonner Group? It is mysterious because it is unregistered. However:

… the New York Times reports that David Brock shares a summer rental in the Hamptons with Mary Pat Bonner, the President of the Bonner Group!

Brock will get away with this as long as Hillary wins the election. That is why he will pull out all the stops to defeat Trump.

A Look at David Brock’s Shadowy Political Empire

To summarize:

In order to continue coordinating directly with the Clinton campaign in matters of spending and strategy, David Brock’s Correct the Record PAC is legally obligated to have cut ties with ALL of the other PACs he founded, including American Bridge 21st Century

Both Correct the Record and American Bridge 21st Century operate out of the 6th floor of the 455 Massachusetts Ave. NW, DC 20001 address

Both PACs share the same assistant treasurer, Michelle Morgan

FEC documents reveal a significant overlap in employees on their respective payrolls.

Aside from Brock and Price-Morris, few at Media Matters knew Brock had armed his aide, according to multiple Media Matters sources.

One source described Brock as “very shy,” explaining that while Price-Morris was there, he rarely confided in anyone outside of his aide and two other people: then-Media Matters president Eric Burns and Brock’s longtime fundraiser, Mary Pat Bonner.

Burns has since started his own public relations firm and would not respond to TheDC’s requests for comment.

Bonner, who sources say now shares office space with Brock inside Media Matters, also did not respond to an emailed request for comment.

Connection between Bonner Group and Democracy Alliance:

Prior to founding Third Plateau, Mike served as Senior Vice President for Operations and Strategy at the Bonner Group, Inc., a nonprofit and Democratic political fundraising firm in Washington, DC. In this capacity, Mike served as a lead consultant to the Democracy Alliance, a partnership of the nation’s top progressive philanthropists. At the Bonner Group, Mike oversaw fundraising for progressive nonprofit organizations, ballot initiative campaigns, and national and non-federal political candidates. He worked with some of the most respected research, education, and advocacy institutions in the nonprofit world, including the Center for American Progress, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, Media Matters for America, and the Sierra Club.

David Brock and all of his pro Hillary groups connected to the Bonner Group. Bonner Group connected to Democracy Alliance. Democracy Alliance connected to Catalist. Catalist used by the DNC's voter database discussed in this thread: Thread: Former Democratic Congressional Candidate Says Hillary Stole Nevada

The “Vast Left-wing Conspiracy”: George Soros’s Democracy Alliance remains a potent force in the 2014 elections

The Democracy Alliance—a secretive, pro-Democratic Party funding powerhouse—is embracing more union bosses as members, amid growing fears in left-wing circles that Republicans are poised to take over the U.S. Senate in the November elections. This trend adds to organized labor’s already considerable clout within this elite fundraising empire, which claims to have funneled more than $500 million into liberal and pro-Democratic organizations. The invitation-only Alliance, co-founded by far-left billionaire philanthropist George Soros, calls itself a “first-of-its-kind partnership of change-makers who are committed to a stronger democracy and a more progressive America.”

<snip>

The Democracy Alliance funds many key institutions on the Left. One of them is Catalist LLC, formerly known as Data Warehouse. This for-profit company was created by Clinton aide Harold Ickes and Democratic operative Laura Quinn to help leftist groups get out the Democratic vote. It describes its mission as providing “progressive organizations with the data and services needed to better identify, understand, and communicate with the people they need to persuade and mobilize.” The chairman of Catalist is Democracy Alliance member Albert J. Dwoskin, a Virginia-based real estate developer. (For a complete profile of Catalist, see Organization Trends, November 2012.)

And finally, Democracy Alliance's connection to Black Lives Matter:

The white élites who fund Black Lives Matter

In other words, who actually fund Black Lives Matter and therefore are responsible for the violence, deaths, and injuries of BLM protests?

The answer: two groups —

Democracy Alliance, comprised of very wealthy Democrats.
Freedom Road Socialist Organization, funded by big corporations and foundations.

1. Democracy Alliance

Kenneth Vogel and Sarah Wheaton report for Politico, Nov. 13, 2015:

“Some of the biggest donors on the left plan to meet behind closed doors next week in Washington with leaders of the Black Lives Matter movement and their allies to discuss funding the burgeoning protest movement … at the annual winter gathering of the Democracy Alliance major liberal donor club, which runs from Tuesday evening through Saturday morning and is expected to draw Democratic financial heavyweights….”

The DA, as the club is known in Democratic circles, is recommending its donors step up check writing to a handful of endorsed groups that have supported the Black Lives Matter movement. And the club and some of its members also are considering ways to funnel support directly to scrappier local groups that have utilized confrontational tactics to inject their grievances into the political debate.”

According to Politico, “Democracy Alliance was created in 2005 by a handful of major donors, including billionaire financier George Soros and Taco Bell heir Rob McKay to build a permanent infrastructure to advance liberal ideas and causes. Donors are required to donate at least $200,000 a year to recommended groups, and their combined donations to those groups now total more than $500 million. Endorsed beneficiaries include the Center for American Progress think tank, the liberal attack dog Media Matters and the Democratic data firm Catalist, though members also give heavily to Democratic politicians and super PACs….”

Brock: Enough opposition research to ‘knock Trump Tower down’

Speaking at a reception on the sidelines of the annual spring meeting of the Democracy Alliance liberal donor club at Santa Monica’s tony Fairmont Hotel, Brock said that Trump “was not properly vetted by his rivals — or by the press” during the Republican presidential primary.

But Brock, who is a leading supporter of Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, said that his non-profit opposition research outfit American Bridge started researching Trump last July, and has unearthed some damning stuff.

“We sat on it all so as not to help the candidates who might have been stronger general election candidates,” Brock said, according to his prepared remarks, which American Bridge released to POLITICO.

Democracy Alliance Bankrolls Dem Super PAC

Members of a secretive club of wealthy left-wing donors are bankrolling a major Democratic Super PAC backing a likely Hillary Clinton presidential run even as some of the group’s members complain it is too closely tied to the Democratic Party.

More than a third of total contributions this year to American Bridge 21st Century have come from individuals associated with the Democracy Alliance.

The most prominent and deep-pocketed is left-wing billionaire George Soros, who has donated half a million dollars to the group this year. Sixteen Democracy Alliance donors, including Soros, have given American Bridge just shy of $2 million since January.

That is roughly 36 percent of the $5,332,844.33 the group says it has received in contributions this year, according to information filed with the Federal Election Commission.

American Bridge is an opposition research outfit founded by Democratic operative and prominent Hillary Clinton supporter David Brock. Brock has used American Bridge and Media Matters for America, an activist group he chairs, to attack those perceived as Clinton critics ahead of her widely expected 2016 presidential run.

In repairing the infrastructure of our democracy, we also have to focus heavily on the role of money in politics, a movement that has been re-energized by the Citizens United, and more recently, the McCutcheon decisions.

David Brock needs to be arrested, along with Elliot Fink, Connor Shaw, and Elizabeth Kim, for conspiring to commit murder of multiple victims. They are already guilty....even with zero actual attempts on the lives of Trump supporters, they can be convicted for this plan. 100% GUILTY

Agreed. David Brock just seems to be the front man though. There are others who need to be arrested and held accountable for their crimes.

From 2015. The "secret memo" from David Brock was written to the Democracy Alliance:

Secret effort to sell Hillary to rich liberals

Hillary Clinton’s allies are working to win over unenthusiastic rich liberals by pitting her against the Koch brothers and prospective GOP rivals rather than more progressive Democrats, according to a draft of a secret memo obtained by POLITICO.

The memo was prepared for Clinton enforcer David Brock ahead of a major donor meeting in April in San Francisco. But the concerns it reveals about liberal donors’ coolness toward her presidential candidacy — with some even holding out hope for a robust primary challenge from the left — are just as acute today, Clinton allies say.

Excerpt from the memo:

7. You take undisclosed money---why? Couldn't the argument be made that dark money groups are just as bad on our side as on theirs? How can we stand up here and expect to be taken seriously talking about what they are doing when we are doing the same thing?

A. The current system is unsustainable, we disagree this system, and we will work to help change it. We will play by the existing rules in this election because we cannot unilaterally disarm--too much of what we care about is at stake.

Email string about Democracy Alliance in the Podesta emails. Here is a portion of it:

Hey John:

Sorry to bug you, but I hear that you're working with the Democracy Alliance to arrange a possible video presentation from Hillary Clinton to its members at their spring meeting in SF next month and am wondering if that's going to be live and interactive, or just taped. Also curious for any thoughts on the direction of the DA at its tenth anniversary.

Thanks. Ken
