Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
It is a tough one. In my experience cure is impossible because the patients do not believe they are in the wrong. It is everyone else causing their problems and who are out to get them. They can not, will not see that they need help. Good luck with that one. IMHO it is one of the most difficult.

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
After knowing a couple of individuals with this disorder, I am very skittish about having contact with anyone else with it. Both of them lavished me with gifts and attention and vowed I was their idol. Then, without cause, lambsted me publicly as the scum of the earth. Their accusations were totally delusional. If you suffer from this malady here is some information:
People with BPD often have highly unstable patterns of social relationships. While they can develop intense but stormy attachments, their attitudes towards family, friends, and loved ones may suddenly shift from idealization (great admiration and love) to devaluation (intense anger and dislike). Thus, they may form an immediate attachment and idealize the other person, but when a slight separation or conflict occurs, they switch unexpectedly to the other extreme and angrily accuse the other person of not caring for them at all. Even with family members, individuals with BPD are highly sensitive to rejection, reacting with anger and distress to such mild separations as a vacation, a business trip, or a sudden change in plans. These fears of abandonment seem to be related to difficulties feeling emotionally connected to important persons when they are physically absent, leaving the individual with BPD feeling lost and perhaps worthless.
<snip>
Patients often need extensive mental health services, and they account for 20 percent of psychiatric hospitalizations. With help, however, many will improve over time and are eventually able to lead productive lives.

Borderline personalities are unable to maintain an authentic self. They have fictive personalities and no ethics. They are extreme liars who cause constant chaos. They are psychotic but not killers. They harm people in ways that can't be prosecuted.

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
people with "BPD" used to be called by a different name...FUCK UP.

after the unleashing of the the mental health industry many things that were not bonafide "medical disorders" BECAME that. people who had unlikeable traits found those traits medicalized and were then tantalized with offers of "treatment", resulting in a worse state of affairs than before. look around you, are people MORE confident, self-controlled, well-balanced?? are they LESS dysfunctional?

i would not touch mental health "treatment" with a ten foot pole. human civilization got along pretty well for thousands of years without psych meds and therapy, so self-reliance can't be ALL bad.
why did i send myself to this world?? there must have been a reason.

it can be and is often simulated with outside influences. people ect. sometimes people are out to get you, sometimes people do fuck with you and try to make you crazy or seem crazy. the ones who dont believe they are in the wrong may not be.... thats the beauty of this technique, noone believes the victim, cause you know, hes crazy

absolutely, well known in the profession, they are interchangeable labels depending on the pt's gender

as I said, it is a character disorder, not treatable with medicines, only effective treatment is CONSEQUENCES resulting from their actions.

it is more widespread than most realize, millions of spoiled, entitled brats from the '60s on present with it

An xg/f of mine back in my 20's had it... she could be an angel or the devil. In the span of an afternoon, she'd weep, laugh, fuck me, love me, pull a knife on me, pull a knife on herself, fuck somebody else... It was awesome.

Sorry, not true.

There are many different types of Personality Disorders. Both males and females can have any one of them.
People with Antisocial Personality Disorder are known as sociopaths, or psychopaths.

People with Borderline Personality Disorder manifest different behaviours than those with Antisocial Personality Disorder (i.e. different diagnostic criteria).

However, if you are able, you would do well to steer clear of ANYONE who has either of these two particular Personality Disorders - they will wreck your life.

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
There is a brighter future for sufferers of BPD. DBT(Dialectical behavior therapy) has been a miracle. Cures are possible now. The person we know who has it is fine if they take their antidepressant and their Armour thyroid. I don't like meds but I have seen this work for my loved one. The new DSM IV is supposed to be changing the name from Borderline Personality Disorder to Emotional Dysregulation. it is also supposed to accept the diagnosis of ED in younger people. The earlier it can be diagnosed, the earlier the person can begin their therapy.
As with many diseases, there is a spectrum. Some have terrible cases and will never be cured while for others, it can be a blip in their lives. We're lucky in that our loved one is more towards the second.

Read about it and learn. If your BPD sufferer is younger:

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
It comes from not feeling loved and not trusting anyone. Once you understand how much God loves you and that you can trust him with your life, then the disorder will disappear.

Personally, I believe it's based on a healthy mistrust of humans. Jesus had a healthy mistrust of humans because he knew how fickle they were. He only entrusted them with some knowledge and didn't get too intimate with any of them.

Smart man.

My cat has a healthy mistrust of humans, too. She was spayed but she still has one ovary (it's a long story) so she still has her cat senses. Most animals whose senses are intact (i.e., they haven't been spayed or neutered so they still have their hormones) have a healthy fear of humans. It only becomes a disorder when it isn't balanced with the knowledge of God's love and protection. Animals have that in spades. We call it 'animal instinct', but it's really just the animals being totally obedient to God's voice, because they trust him implicitly.

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
People put their love and trust into the wrong people, and get hurt. If they get hurt enough, they get screwed up. That's a normal response. Loony people are just honestly expressing what it feels like to be screwed up.

Moral of the story is: don't put your love and trust in the wrong people. Humans are NOTORIOUSLY fickle. My advice is to steer clear of loving and trusting humans too much. You can love them and trust them as much as you need to, but don't put all of your love and trust eggs into a human basket. AND DON'T PUT IT INTO YOUR OWN BASKET, EITHER.

Put all of your love and trust eggs into God's basket. He will never, ever let you down, and he will return your love to such an extent that you will just about die with joy. That's a promise and that's the truth.

I know because I have been on both sides of this fence.

Love,
Just Another Loony Person

It is not always from feeling unloved. Sometimes there is a genetic component. BPD is one of the last disorders that professionals are finally coming around to not blaming on the parents. Every parent that I know of who has a child with BPD were loving and validating with their kids.
Do we blame parents if kids get cancer or diabetes?

It sucks basically the only way to cure someone is to electrocute them back to a vegetative state and make them re learn everything.
But of course these days this is considered not humane so they basically just go through life fucking with everyone else's that come across them.

Re: Borderline Personality Disorder
i've got BPD. well, its not nearly as bad now as it was before treatment, but its still there. i just react better now. i did a full year of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and it was amazing. completely changed my life for the better. im by no means cured of all my issues, but im able to cope with life and its difficulties a lot better than i could before. i dont take meds, they never worked for me and made me 100X worse. i responded really well to the therapy. things have been a lot better since i did the DBT.
