He assumes a 12% savings interest rate. LOL!!! Who gets that guaranteed? You're lucky if you get a 5% savings rate. I would like to say that after I started working from home that I ended up saving a bundle on gas, clothing, car repairs, child care etc. I don't make more but I am able to save 40% of my income.

I never buy anything "new". I purchase many things through classified ads that are barely 1-2 years old and get them for 1/3 the price. I haven't purchased a new car in 25 years and probably never will.

Tip. You can buy refurbished laptops through "computer rental" businesses that run fine and are updated with the newest software. They will often offer you an extended warranty.

I'd get it paid off in 12-15 months tops.

Assuming it's not totaled or anything (I live in low crime, laid back, low population area) I think the investment would be good over buying used and worrying about future problems with the car. Of course if I hit a deer and ended up only getting a depreciated value from the insurance company, I'd be somewhat screwed if I had to buy a new car again given how well I take care of my vehicles.

I can see the argument of not wanting to "accumulate" wealth for "retirement" .... a simple illness or other disaster could suddenly cost you everything you've worked so hard to accumulate... however when one is in debt and a disaster occurs one loses nothing.. and in most cases will still get, for example, their medical care taken care of.

There's just less stress having to worry about protecting assets... contrarily, there's less stress being debt free as well. I'd rather have a modest net worth then be in debt... to me that's slavery.
