Neesie User ID: 64455 United States 01/19/2007 09:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i wouldnt worry about it too much. there are plenty of things that hum. it could range from your refrigerator kicking in or the neighbor with a new sex toy. .A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell. Anonymous Coward User ID: 184454 New Zealand 01/19/2007 09:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well im glad you asked cause yes i heard it two nights ago it was a starry lit night, i was watering the horse at this time, all was quiet except for this low pitched hum looking up i could see two jet planes very high traveling side by side, one plane was massive like a starlifter while the other was not as large, the big one had three sets of lights on each of its wings what blew me away was the fact that this direction they were flying in is not a flight path as there is nothing but thousands of miles of sea in that direction, to the south pole what they were doing flying side by side like that in itself was down right odd |
Thanatos User ID: 159000 United States 01/19/2007 09:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | yeah, it's definitely not the fridge or a vibrator! this is a loud hum that permeates the air. Quoting: Sabina 184469A hum? Sprayer copters don't hum. There was a streetlight outside a place where I used to live that would hum and start to flicker sometimes, like an old fluorescent bulb (which, I assumed, was exactly what was happening). Could that be the sound? Do any of your immediate neighbors have automatic garbage disposals? I know it sounds silly, but it is best to start with the mundane and work your way up. Rarrgh! |
Sabina (OP) User ID: 184469 United States 01/19/2007 09:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | hmm, interesting! when i hear it again i am going to go outside and see if i can see any planes. i definitely heard one or more helicopters. the noise is a bit offputting, in that i feel wary when i hear it and my instinct is to stay inside and not explore what is causing it. neesie - perhaps it is quake-related as you mentioned. perhaps i can only hear it at 3am because everything else becomes very quiet outside at that time. |

There is a light outside my place that gives the kind if buzzing that you mentioned. In comparison, I guess you could say the sound I am talking about is more like a rumble or a low roar. It's not a buzzing like that streetlights give off. It's much "bigger" than a garbage disposal, too. I don't rule out anything mundane like that, of course. I just can't think of anything that would make sense. The closest thing it sounds like is somebody running a car motor non-stop for two hours. It might last longer than two hours but I usually fall asleep after hearing it for those couple of hours. |

ashesand sackcloth User ID: 182 United States 01/19/2007 10:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes I'm aquainted with the hum you are hearing. We get it here sometimes. Sounds like a diesl truck idle or something like that but far off. Seems to carry more than a engine would though. I've been of the mind it is possibly some type of tunneling machinery. Only happens late at night. Central Indiana reporting in. Out Booner |
Thanatos User ID: 159000 United States 01/19/2007 10:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sabrina can you feel it to Quoting: Anonymous Coward 184454is there a vibration with the hum ? No shaking or hum in an indeterminate city in the southern half of the U.S. where I am now. Where are you, 184454? Sabrina, I know you probably already thought of this, but the best idea I have for the noise is the jets you keep seeing. If the lights were turned off and somebody was holding, say, a high-altitude mock dogfight somewhere above your home as military training, you might get that sort of sound. If it is a training exercise, one would expect that the hum varied in intensity over time as the center of the activity drifts towards and away from you. Crap, they could be playing with an electrostatic hovercraft or a UFO for all we know and there would be no way to tell. Humming and a few planes could be almost anything. Rarrgh! |
Sabina (OP) User ID: 184469 United States 01/19/2007 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I can't feel a vibration. It's definitely just an audio sensation. It's strange because even though it seems loud it's almost like it's just on the edge of my hearing capabilities because it's such a low decibal. Do diesel trucks idle at night? I'm just going to have to drive down the street and look around next time I hear it. It's driving me crazy! |

The hum doesn't change at all over two hours or so. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78392 United States 01/19/2007 10:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Duh ! Thats just a ufo hovering above your house. It could even be cloaked and you'd never know. Then of course you hear the helicopters either folling it, or chasing it off. Your in California. A hotspot for ufo activity. If your serious. I'd be hauling ass out of bed and looking outside everytime I heard that sound. |

The transformers on the power poles make more of a higher pitched buzz. You mentioned helocopters... Some millitary helo's can be heard comming for 60 miles or better depending on altitude and outside temp. I know I have heard them for close to an hour before they came overhead. Sometimes they jusst circle an area for a long time too! |

I don't know what it is for sure but I suspect it could be vibrational manipulations from some source or another. UFO's maybe.
