It's tail is now so wide that it fills a large chunk of the night sky, PERHAPS 30 TIMES BIGGER THAN ANY OTHER COMET.
Its starting to look like a wheel. |

Even experienced astronomers have never seen anything like it--a sweeping fan of comet dust visible to the unaided eye despite city lights and twilight. Steve Crane sends this Jan. 19th picture from Cape Town, South Africa:

I have not seen a photo that shows what I saw a few hours ago over the Indian Ocean. The tail looks somewhat like the zodiacal light, but that is not what it is... not yet anyway!
I will repeat what I said. The tail is 30 or so times bigger in apparent size than any other comet.
It has spokes.

It looks more like a chemtrail! It looks like its disipating something.

The more I think about it, the more odd it seems.
Comet tails, are supposed to always point away from the sun, so I have been told. This tail seems to be warped. The comet appears to be taking a sharp turn, but the tail is not following. What's up, Doc? |

Well now look at the other picture on www.spaceweather.com. Streamers visible from the comet!
The tail curves so much and stretches so far that it actually leads all the way back to the northern hemisphere where streamers can be seen glowing faintly in the western sky after sundown. Physics professor Jimmy Westlake of Stagecoach, Colorado, spotted them last night. "The dusty wisps of Comet McNaught's tail filled the sky like auroral streamers, easily visible to the unaided eye. I feel like I've been visited by the comet's ghost!" A 30-second exposure with his digital camera produced this image: |

That is because the comet is going around the sun so the source of the tail (the comet) is moving sideways but the tail is sill always blown away from the sun. |

Those photos were taken way too early in the evening to reveal what I saw. Photos taken an hour or two later would still not make apparent just how much of the night sky it occupies... it looks as big as a mid latitude aurora against the pitch black sky. |

Check out where the comet was spotted in the UK as reported by the daily mail.
"This is the spectacular view of the brightest comet for 32 years. And suitably for a phenomenon once seen as a portent of doom, it was spotted over World's End."

I'm still wondering why we can't see it from the Northern Hemisphere...???
Has anyone North of the Equator seen it?
Where can it hide? It must appear too close to the sun from this viewing angle, I suppose.
Doesn't seen to make much sense because it's as far away as the sun. It's not like a lunar eclipse, which (the moon) is very close.
Oh well. I guess tha's just the way it is.

Too incredible for words...
Wish I could see it, I'm in the NW and we're getting heavy weather. Not sure it would be visible fro here if it was clear though. I tried the one day it cleared up and didn't see it then either, I guess it's Southern Hemisphere only like someone else said.
Thanks for posting this Bloke! I get the sense you feel this is an important event. I totally agree.
I had a vision once of the earth passing through the tail of a comet. The comet dust that hit the planet was purplish in color and came down like wet sand with a surprising speed. Like buckshot being fired at you but everywhere at once.
I don't know if we'll pass through this one's tail, but I believe there is one coming. I had one other vision that I think needs to happen first, a volcano erupting in Portland Oregon.
Interesting times we live in. |
