Legalizing it wouldn't hurt a damn thing except the budgets of the DEA,law enforcement, courts and the profits of drug cartels.

OP,

You need to chill a little. Perhaps you can drink yourself silly and feel better about unsuccessfully gaining any, and I mean zero support from any of the users on this site.

Me....

I hate the stuff. Makes me paranoid and tired. But, hubby has RA and his hands are painfully disfigured. It helps his pain.

So, for health reasons, I have no problem with it being legal for him and those that enjoy that crap. It's not all about me. Nothing is.

Me. I like it but I've used it perhaps five times in my life. It's very nice. I like it. And yet when I lived where it is recreationally legal I never went into a dispensary. Never got around to it.

I see no earthly reason why we as a society need to police and imprison people for enjoying a pleasant feeling from an herbal preparation.

There is something really fucked up about people who want to punish other people for experiencing pleasure.

Now you've proven you don't even understand the difference between a specific party member and a libertarian principled in the ethics of Lockian/Jeffersonian political philosophy. That's why he said small l libertarians with the words (in general).

Funny, you couldn't name one libertarian at the start of the thread.

And suddenly you're an expert on them. chuckle

So you make an ad hominem, that's fine.

But the principle (of libertarianism) is no less a reason to support wider drug legalization.

The OP is able to derive his pleasure from state sponsored oppression.
It just makes him feel good to use government to break the will of individuals and the majority who are coming around to accept legalization.
He probably lives high on the hog from a government job. Y'know what kind of job. It involves sitting at a computer all day visiting sites like this.

Re: Name one person who doesn't smoke weed, but thinks it should be legalized
I have never smoked anything. I have a very, very delicate system, During college I had to take stronger and stronger pain meds to cope with severe menstrual cramps. Basically that meant taking a "knock out" drug and staying in bed for 1 - 3 days I HATED the effect of not being able to think clearly.

When it came to getting Talwin they finally put me on the birth control pill which dramatically lessens periods. For that one reason I strongly advocate for Planned Parenthood and for medical care that pays for the pill as it's medically necessary for some aside from the prevention of pregnancy. I used to get so mad at women who said there were other ways to prevent extreme, debilitating pain. The pill was the ONLY way I could keep a job.

Anyway I've known many who would be a "basket case" without marijuana. Literally suicidal and unable to get out of bed or function at a job. It has fewer side effects than oxycontin.

My superb doctor in Vegas who's cured my muscular pain issues with cortisone shots (multiple car accidents) dispenses medical marijuana for those with severe, debilitating pain who have a completely different system than I do. Some people cannot physically sit or get a good night sleep without its use. They are naturally extremely hyper or suffer from extreme PTSD due to childhood or military trauma. Medical marijuana has changed their outlook on life.

Nope. If they accept an unnecessary restriction, they will accept anything.
You really need to get your butt back into school, boy, and study the Democratic governments of the past two odd centuries.
They accepted Woodrow Wilson, WW 1 and prohibition at about the same time, as an example of stupid moves done at the same time restrictions in the law were created.

I'm in favor of legalizing weed and I don't smoke it.

It sure would have been helpful with my Dads Parkinsons Disease.
It could be helpful to me with certain health problems.
It is known to help with pain, appetite, sleeping, paralysis, seizures, etc. etc.
I have many family members who need it and want it but cannot get it.

We should have this option available. Weed has no "withdrawl syndrome" that other legal drugs do. No bad side effects that I know of.
Much safer than pharmaceutical drugs.

Also, I would like to point out that the prohibition on weed is not exclusive to the U.S. Most countries have some form of drug enforcement, some of them more harsh (and in turn more successful) than ours.

The more things change the more Democracies stay stupid.
Restriction and dumb moves by government do go together.
As an example, the restrictive p.c. movement in our universities is a growing problem at the same time, coincidentally enough, the government seems to have more of an influence over our media.
Unnecessary rules grow with statism.
Hobbesians like yourself and liberal tyrants go together like peanut butter and chocolate in a pb & c cup.
