This is because Bill Clinton / GWB oversaw the consolidation of the media industry back into a few big oligopolies. There used to be restrictions on who could own local radio stations, and how many. There used to restrictions on cross-lateral monopolies. It's all gone. Which means Disney can promote their teenie stars until they are 18, then turn them into lip-synching psuedo-music acts that have a waiting audience of youngsters who have no knowledge of music, but respond to their preconditioned programming to view these mouseketeers as sex symbols. It's all about generating the $$$$$ dollars for the chosen people who run the monopoly. |
