How about go fuck yourself gently with a chainsaw!

I know more than your two brain cells trying to rub together.

Just because your dog from 50 years ago didn't die or get sick doesn't mean shit.

Go to ANY vet's office and ask them if this is safe. IT IS NOT, AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS!

I have seen dogs end up in shelters with mange that were covered in motor oil. It's appalling and disgusting. This is a DEBUNKED old wive's tale!

Please do not own a dog you asshole.

Do NOT listen to any idiot saying to put your dog down. Find a kind vet with a payment plan.
 Quoting: Bebe 64425078

Do NOT listen to anybody saying NOT to put your dog down. OP might be a total moron and the real thing is that the mange is more than what you think.

My hamster had mange. So we paid big money to take this little 30 dollar 3 year lifespan hamster to the veterinary clinic. They shave the hamster of the fur, and tell me to give the hamster, with wicked little teeth, a dip every day. In a week he died anyways.

Weigh the risks for you and choose. Fix it, or adopt it to someone who can, or put it down. Or do the vet and the dip.

My dog got a full, fat face being on steroids....I heard the used motor oil, but she was my inside dog...I finally bathed her in salt water every day at 4 o'clock. Re: Mange
My son adopted a puppy with demodectic mange. The puppy's immune system is supressed and their body can't control the mites. The vet wanted to do toxic dips. I gave her probiotics and salmon oil, both were formulas for dogs but you can use Culturelle probiotics if you can't find the canine formula.

The bald, itchy spots started to clear up within a week. I think about a month month later there was no sign of mange and she has never had a problem again. This kind of mange is not contagious.

Bacon grease on his food. If your dog has a sensitive stomach then do less more often instead of a bunch at one time. My dog loves bacon grease so i can even warm a tablespoon in little dish and put under 1/4 water. Oncebit starts to help you can ho to couple times a week to maintain. Also until it takes effect wash with sulfur tar shampoo. People are against this shampoo but it deodorizes heals prevents and also provides relief. Also, put about a teaspoon - tablespoon of any vinegar in his waterbowl. Adjust til he drinks it if at first he deems reluctant. This helps ph balance, and kills yeast fungals that are systematic and will thus increase immune system and natural defenses. It also helps keep flea free and mite free. Trust Me!!!! Please. I know this works.

Re: Mange
Ask the vet for an easy payment plan.

There's 3 kinds of mange; one is slower to cure. The slower to cure one is fixed with ivermectin (get from feed store--cheaper than vet) be very careful with dose.)

Here's some helpful links, the first one is for home remedies --which do not always work.:I would try the
Naturasil products, too--read comments section there

There are breeds that will die if you use Ivermectin on them. German Sheperds are one. Please check with a competent vet before using Iver on your dog. GSD's are not the only ones that cannot process Iver.
It can be very effective on those breeds that can use it. I had to use Revolution on my GSD.

DO NOT DO THIS! IT IS TOXIC TO DOGS!

You can purchase Ivermectin 1% solution (about $40) at a feed store or online and give by mouth daily with a syringe until cleared up (may take months).

Here are exact dosing instructions for demodex mange:
[link to dogaware.com]

I'm assuming the dog has regular demodex mange, not sarcoptic mange. If it has sarcoptic mange, coming into contact with the dog, it will spread to humans and you will be itchy and have to clean everything in the home extremely thoroughly! There are different dosages for sarcoptic mange here:
[link to dogaware.com]

If your dog is a collie breed or mix, ivermectin may me toxic! Other breeds as well. Read this first to make sure:
[link to dogaware.com]

If you decide to go this DIY route, eventually you should have a vet do a skin scrape to make sure it's all gone.

If you cannot do this bare minimum for your dog, then please find a rescue for it.

You rub the affected areas with the ivermectin paste, you dont have to feed it to the dog, it works quicker that way, put a bit on every day.
If you want t
it to work better and faster wet the affected areas with a spinosad d containing solutionl, its whats in comfortis but buy the plant spray version because its cheap.
Ive done it and the expense is very low if you buy the ivermectin horse paste on line and buy the spinosad d containing insecticide spray at one of the big box stores. I think i had maybe 20 bucks total in it and it took a couple weeks total from weaping crustiy mess to cured and healing.
wash off all the crusty matted junk off of the affected areas too with soap and iodine solution.

Ivermectin horse paste costs as little as 2 bucks per syringe full if you look on line for a special, its double or triple at TCS or horse stores.
you dont need to have the dog eat it, you just clean the area of crusts/scabs and rub it in. You can use it for heartworm prophylaxis because its the same chemical you can figure out the proper dose if you want buy doing some calculations

I rescued a rat terrier who had mange. There is heridetary mange and mange from surpressed immune system. My rat terrier lived off feces and was eat up with worms so his was immune mange.

If your dog isn't spayed hormones will make the mange spread. She must be spayed. Get her on a good quality food and a visit to the vet will tell you how much ivetmectin to give her, everyday for a month.

My rat terrier is 8 years old and has never had another bout of mange.

Re: Mange
Lime sulphur dip. 16oz typically costs about $14. You might have to dip the dog multiple times depending on how bad the infestation has become. Mix with water in a large pail according to directions. Put dog in pail and pour mixture all over the dog and rub it in.

Also, be very careful. Mites (the cause of mange) can be contagious. Wear gloves and clothes that cover your body!

Cheyletiella mites are the least bad. On humans they typically cause tiny sores all over your torso and it lasts about a month until they all die off.

Sarcoptic mites are worse and cause what's called 'scabies' in humans. Those can survive in your skin unlike Cheyletiella.

If I had a dog with mange I wouldn't admit it on here. Because you're doing something wrong to your dog. I'd sooner admit to burning my neighbor's house down. People will turn you in for mis treating an animal. I've had dogs that lived in dirt and dust, lived under the porch because that's where they liked it, and they never got mange...

THIS... Was going to post this early this morning when I saw the thread but one of those your the luckiest winner screens kept taking over. Funny how lucky I am now. Happens a couple times a day!

Anyway , one of my dogs has gotten mange several times as she likes to go sniffing the chipmunk holes and then sits on them, this solution works wishing a week. Spray on mix very liberally and LEAVE IT ON TO DRY ON ITS OWN.

Has worked every time for me and costs less than $10 for a supply that's lasted me 3 years of treatments.
