Anonymous Coward User ID: 73288846 United Kingdom 10/29/2016 03:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The sun used to set due west just a month ago ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71140551 now it's setting in the south-west ... and pretty far south .... something is up Please search through the history of GLP for posts about the sun "setting in the wrong place" (or "rising..."). This comes up every year, spring and autumn, and every year it's explained over, and over (and over, and over...) again. If you can't understand any of these explanations, I suggest you go and lock yourself in your cellar, because it's going to keep happening for the next few billion years. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71140551 now it's setting in the south-west ... and pretty far south .... something is up I have contacted the German department of sun movement (DIZBS) regarding this matter. They told me, they are well aware of the situation that the sun sets in the south-west now. They assured me that they will fix it, but because of the mass and inertia of the sun it will take some time. They told me that they are quite confident to be able to fix the problem until December 21st and that the sun definitely will move back into the western direction after that date. . :ase26122019: Annular Solar Eclipse - December 26, 2019 - Kannur, Kerala, India |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73236768 United Kingdom 10/29/2016 06:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Over a year the sun rises in a different place. Between winter and summer equinoxes it moves through about 45 degrees. This is what makes in dark for longer in the winter in the north and lighter in summer. The reverse is true in the Southern hemisphere. The suns limits are marked on the mas the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. The nearer the Equator you live the less extreme the variation in day and night. We were taught this in Geography when we were about 12/13 years old. Complain to your schools if your children are not being taught this. It is basic information that everyone should know. I loved geography at school but when my children did it, it had morphed into town planning. I decided that I would inform my youngest myself and he used to trace around countries which he really enjoyed. You can get books too with the places of the world and flags and Capital towns and what the people do in the countries and what their climates are like. I like the diversity of it all . Monoculture is not so good .Populations are generally happy with their cultures if they are decent and reasonable. I wonder if we have started getting annoyed because some people want to take away our festivals . When Oliver Cromwell tried to ban Christmas he was loathed. My family it seems was Royalist ,On the first of May they would all wear oak leaves to celebrate the King being saved by hiding in an oak tree. This I think was the whole village , maybe the county. This was still happening before WW2. The King was Charles the 2nd and it happened in 1651. The ordinary people have long memories...... |

Like the "new" flu epidemics that happen every year and come and go as usual, some never learn I guess. |
