Re: what does the "G" stand for the MASONIC emblem?
The Grand Architect Of The Universe (TGAOTU) designs the plans, and the "builders" (Freemasons) construct it.

The question is: What is the blueprint? Is it the Great Book (Bible)? Is this the blueprint from which the builders manifest their construction? Keep in mind that when the Masonic Lodge opens (when ritual begins), one of the three Great Books (Tanakh, Bible, or Koran) must be open on the altar.
 Quoting: Thor's Hamster

....So I'd say yes...the Great Book is the blueprint.

But the question then becomes...how to read the Great Book? Are we to take it literally? If taken literally, it's seems not much different than any book of mythology. We must fine tune our lenses in order to have the eyes to read the TGAOTU's blueprint. That's the key.

It sounds funny, but it really does stand for 'goy'. If you knew why, you'd know the origin and purpose of freemasonry (hint: do a search on that last phrase on GLP).

THe "G" stands for GOD. As for the Square stands for "SQUARE OF VERTUE" and the Compass stands for the "COMPASSES OF MERCY AND FAITH"

IT ALL COMES TOGETHER TO SAY "REVELATION, LIGHT TRUTH & WILL OF GOD.

IT ALL IS THE "ANTINOMIES OF THE SPIRITUALLY OF MAN"

Very cool. Interesting. Yes, I recall reading about the esoteric essence of that word. I can't fully remember its meaning, though.

Magicians wear top hats. The Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge wears a top hat. Incidentally, the Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge represents the sun... the Great Light in the East. He sits upon a high-backed chair on a platform raised 3 steps up. Three steps -- the 3 Degrees of the Blue Lodge in Freemasonry -- Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, Master Mason.

Ever wonder about the significance of a magician pulling a RABBIT out of his top hat? Could it be symbolic of the "rabbit hole" one must go down (ala "Alice in Wonderland") in order to attain the esoteric wisdom running in the currents of the Underground Stream?

Masonic initiates at various levels are told different things. At first they are told the "G" means God. They are also told it means "geometry", or "gnosis", or "genetics". Ultimately, though, the masonic "G" is an Ouroboros serpent biting its tail. See the link below, and/or do a search for Ouroboros serpent.

Re: what does the "G" stand for the MASONIC emblem?
i know this has been discussed before and many different answers have been given, but i think i have the correct answer now. the correct answer is GAotU, which means "Grand Architect of the Universe".

in fact, i believe, the EMBLEM itself stands for GAotU.

the G stands for Grand
the "compass" is a stylized A, for Architect
(usually small words like of, the, etc are not represented)
the "rule" is a stylized U, for Universe

i don't believe this has ever been proposed in the other threads. i know the GAOTU has been said, but i don't believe the proposal about the EMBLEM has been mentioned.

I agree. This is what I was referring to by the word "genetics". The term "generative" gets a little murky in that it is used differently in psychology in making the distinction between generativity(productive living) and stagnation. The sexual generative interpretation of the "G" is higher up the hierarchy than God or geometry, but still below the Ouroboros, which is the top level.

As to the polarity of the checkerboard, note the similarity to the black yin and white yang of the tai chi symbol. The black and white checkerboard is the historic accounting abacus used by the British Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Note also, that if you connect the two ends of the compass with a line, and the two ends of the square with a line, you get a Magen David or "star of David" with the G in the center. The six pointed Magen David has nothing to do with the Hebrew king David. It is a misnomer. The star is composed of an upward pointing male triangle, and a downward pointing female triangle. It is a symbol of the dualism of sexuality, just as is the circular tai chi with the yin and yang.
