Why Joseph doubt Mary?
"Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly."

A man, faithful to the law, didn't know the prophecy? "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”

He was supposed to be happy, why didn't he thought: Wow the messiah will be born from Mary! Yay! But no, he "did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly."

Re: Why Joseph doubt Mary?
In case you were not aware of the facts ... Mary was a 14 year old orphan who was given to "the temple" to be a maid/slave - until she started her period - at which time she was "given" to some Elder in the community ... in Mary's case, no one wanted her - so they held a sort of lottery and Joseph was the looser ...

Joseph was 47 years old and had already raised a family - Mary was 14 and assumed pregnant after living with priest all her life - WHY WOULD HE BELIEVE her - but he was a good man, and knew that she would be stoned to death if he did not marry her and hide her pregnancy ... so they DREAMED UP the story they told the world ...

because of Mary, Joseph had to leave his original family and his native land - to protect her bastard child from Herrod's order to murder all children under three and they hid out with the Essene sect of gnostics - for a decade - which is also why he was kicked out of school - because his "education" proved to be more complete than what they were teaching

side note - barry soreto also was educated by people in a "foreign" land - until he was ten years old ... and we can see how this early education shaped both of their lives ...

So? He did consider that he was the messiah until an angel told him, why? He should know better. He feared God and never read this prophecy before? banana2

None of the Jews was looking for him.
Only 3 men from Persia who actually read the book of Daniel, knew.

No.
They were just as blind and proud as today's Jews.
The pagans were maggi, a sect started by Daniel a few hundred years earlier.

What?!

First, nowhere in the Bible is the age of Mary made explicit. But it is abundantly clear that she was no little girl. To begin with never is she described as particularly young:

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women [gynaixin]. (Luke 1.28)

She also traveled alone from Nazareth to Judea, which is about 80 or 100 miles worth:

And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women [gynaixin], and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. (Luke 1.39, 42)

The Bible, as far as I gather, never fails to mention the presence of escorts, even when they consist mostly of servants or animals. But just here one finds that Mary paid a visit to Elisabeth alone & neither did the hosts put together a feast for the nonexistent cohort, which should have stayed there 3 months or (inclusive) depart unnoticed (otherwise it would have received at least a passing mention). Shouldn't one, in his right mind, accompany such a frail helpless pregnant virgin, were she not an adult? Especially for a husband who is called Just in the Bible?

Contrast her lone trip with:

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. (Luke 2.4, 5)

Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among theirkinsfolk and acquaintance. (Luke 2.41-44)

Besides, Elisabeth is a stricken in years "relative" of Mary, why should we expect Mary to be so disproportionately young when in fact they're in similar conditions? How could an old Joseph undertake so protracted (hill country!) & regular trips?

Also, consider:

I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare. Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine. (Ezekiel 16.7, 8)

See? Full grown breasts. That's not what happens in little girls, notwithstanding what pedophilic Google claims. (The Bible has both uniquely determined inner & outer meanings. Here the outer meaning is used).

Now that unclean tradition is likely related to the doctrine of lifelong virginity of Mary. This is of course an error as shall be demonstrated:

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. (Mark 6.3)

Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? (Matthew 13.55)

There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; (Mark 15.40)

Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children. (Matthew 27.56)

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. (John 19.25)

Get it? The mother of James & Joses is the mother of Jesus, my employer.
Thus it is that, a sweet lie is "bitter" than a bitter truth.

Just out of curiousity, are jews looking for someone named Immanuel to be their messiah? Why aren't all of them naming their kids Immanuel just like all the muslims name their kids Mohammed in order to be in the running?

If someone is not named Immanuel do the Jewish people write that person off as their messiah?

Why or why not?
