Kirsten Gillibrand studied Chinese at Dartmouth and did a study abroad in Beijing. Her knowledge of China would be an asset as China's grows in influence and that might be why Alcyone selected her as a future president. Of course, there is speculation that she might run in 2020. With Trump as unpopular as he is and a large part of the democratic base upset with not having woman president, it may be too tempting for her to pass up.

According to the source, even if she runs in 2020, she should lose. There's still another republican winner in between.

Which means that Trump will win in 2020 or there will have to be a big event before we get too far in 2019 to have another Republican win the primaries. Trump could be impeached, resign, or some crisis could make a primary challenger viable.

If Trump leaves office before his first term is up, that leaves Pence in the driver's seat as the next Republican president just as when Nixon quit mid-term and Ford was president. That still allows Gillibrand to run in 2020 as suggested. This totally fits with the current mood of the country and with the story as provided.

But Gillibrand is supposed to be President in 2031 which would require her to win a third term.

You're right, I have done the math, and stand corrected. Regardless, Trump would have to leave office before a full second term, handing off the presidency via election or by default (to Pence) before the 2024 election. At this point default seems the more likely of the two.

As for getting China into an expansionist war, the U.S. government might engineer some sort of environmental catastrophe in Russia. They would genocide 100 million Russians, destroying Russia as a major power leaving China a vacuum to exploit. The environmental destruction and millions of displace would cause a global recession pushing China to war.

Automation might also be a factor. When hundreds of millions of people start losing their jobs due to automation, it might be very convenient for world leaders to give them weapons and send them overseas.
