Those sudden warm/bitter cold temperature swings are hard. I was watching that Continent7 show about Antarctica the other night and they had a storm where the temperature dipped to -70 F on average in the interior and they had a storm where it was -100. Umm.... shit, I dunno about this cruise we were talking about now. That's insane. The worst I ever felt was -50F when I had to fly up to Fairbanks with the Garrison Commander. My freakin' hair froze from my breath. i looked like abominable snow woman. We had a 3 day stretch during my junior year of HS (back in WI) that was about -45 every day with -75 windchill. Yeah, that's cold. Brrrr! 31 this morning here in DFW, but no wind so actually felt better than yesterday. That's cold for Texas, innit? A little. It may get colder, yet. Coldest I have experienced in Texas is 12 degrees Fahrenheit. We usually have a freeze in February that shuts the metroplex down for a couple days. |

"sigh" We're having daytimes in the 30s for a week and nighttimes in the teens ... maybe some winter weather Monday. The ocean mitigates our temperature here more than the latitude. The same latitude in PA or points west get frozen solid. I'm 20 miles from the ocean and that's never freezing, so that helps. ETA: one way i know this for sure is the temperate zone map ... we're a zone warmer because of the ocean. We have 7 miles of creek going through our property and we do get flooded every few years or so, but never have the houses been underwater. Mostly its just roads and bridges washed out. We have some of the best grasslands in the west in this area. Where I live is north central Montana, about 90 miles or so from the Canadian border. My great grandfather moved here in the late 1860's. We have a mountain on the ranch named after the family. The elevation varies from 3600 to 5100 feet. deplorably republican |

Wyoming was so placid, being from NJ ... the state police report on the radio for the whole state had a single stolen pickup as the only item to report for the week when I was there ... My neighborhood is nice, the schools are good and my county is the least populated - that's as good as it gets here ... we're close to the beach and can be on the Appalachian trail in 2 hours, and in the heart of Appalachia in 4. We can be in philly in 45 minutes and NYC and DC in 2:15 each. Land is expensive here, and people hold it ... most of it's preserved and zoned to oblivion, so we simply can't get anymore dense. (In my township, which is huge, you can't subdivide smaller than three acres, no matter what). Is's a good spot all-around for the larger area. It's as quiet as Wyoming for a 5 mile radius :) When the shit hits the fan and the end is just nigh, will you cry out to Heaven? Will you lie down and die?
