Actually Hitler declared war on the US on December 11, 1941. He didn't have to, his deal with Japan only said that Germany would come to the defense of Japan if Japan were attacked. Pearl Harbor was Japan attacking the US. If Hitler were smart he could have let Japan keep the US occupied for a while. But nobody ever said Hitler was smart.




The Soviet Union was a minimum of 2 years from being able to mount an attack on Nazi Germany. After Stalin's purges of the 1930s the Red Army had lost their most experienced commanders. In the winter of 1940 the Soviet Union attacked Finland and Finland easily repelled them.

No, Operation Barbarossa was simply another of Hitler's blunders. The German High Command all recommended against the attack. Even with the ease of the defeat of the rest of Europe the Wehrmacht was in need of rest. Many planes had been lost in the Battle of Britain. But Hitler wanted Lebensraum or living space to the east and took on the great bear of the Soviet Union.

Hitler had to enact his enabling acts, suspend the constitution, etc. He had to pull all of those triggers on his rise.

That stuff's already done in the U.S. with the Patriot Acts I and II, NDAA (and subsequent), FISA courts, etc. Executive Orders and permanent states of emergencies.

So panic about this individual or that if you want, but realize that 95pct of the groundwork is already "legal". Kinda sneaked up on most, I'd guess.
