Topaz (OP) User ID: 72533560 United States 12/05/2016 12:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good Morning on 5th December: I apologize that I wasn't able to comment to all of the wonderful replies from you all over the weekend and am thankful that each of you cared in your heart to speak out about this alarming situation and am super-concerned to hear other reports of birds suddenly missing in other regions! Here's my latest report: It has been rainy & damp across Texas most of the weekend and quite chilly here in the Dallas-FW region... and despite loads of fresh bird food scattered across my backyard, the only birds I have seen on the ground eating any of it over the past 2 days have been several crows that come around from the outlying fields. On Saturday I scattered an entire bag of crushed tortilla chips under the big tree where the birds come to perch in the branches & then fly down for the food below (feeder + ground); the woodpeckers descend down to the tree's base to feed on what I've heaped up around the trunk for them. This big water oak is where most of the area birds have always "hung out" as I keep it loaded up daily for them and even the hordes of grackles ("problem" birds) are welcome to an extent (then I may shoo them off if it gets too crazy). We no longer have any pets in the yard and I am very much organic so no chems or pesticides in this home or property! The main oak tree is near the house, by the patio & about 8 feet from a large picture window in the dining area (no drapes or blinds) -- and that is where our family likes to bird watch 24/7 and I truly care about them like my little friends in nature. And my human friends will vouch that I am a bird fanatic as they often give me a hard time for insisting they hand over their leftover bread & chips when we go out eat together "for my birds" ... I carry a Ziploc bag in my purse for that purpose. Anyhow, still bad news = no birds came to eat on Saturday but the usual crows... and then on Sunday I added a half of loaf of stale bread all crumbled up and scattered it about in several other "bird" areas around the yard then watched closely all day --> but still NO birds at all , like ZERO birds folks ...and this, it is making me cry a -- I am realizing something is really, really bad wrong. If fact, right now, I pause to go check out the window to see if any might be visiting this minute. Back shortly,,, Back in a few minutes Last Edited by Topaz on 12/05/2016 12:14 PM |

Topaz (OP) User ID: 72533560 United States 12/05/2016 02:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good Morning on 5th December: Quoting: Topaz ....... ---> Anyhow, still bad news = no birds came to eat on Saturday but the usual crows... and then on Sunday I added a half of loaf of stale bread all crumbled up and scattered it about in several other "bird" areas around the yard then watched closely all day --> but still NO birds at all , like ZERO birds folks ...and this, it is making me cry a -- I am realizing something is really, really bad wrong. If fact, right now, I pause to go check out the window to see if any might be visiting this minute. Back shortly,,, Back in a few minutes A few hours ago I paused in my posting in hope of finding that a few birds might be around the yard or neighborhood, but there were none at all. So I went out to the road and walked a bit around the area and was careful to listen for any distant chirping even off in the wooded areas by a creek 2 streets behind our street & this effort was very discouraging as no birds were seen in any yards or trees and absolutely no chirps or bird sounds. This area is located in the northern part of Benbrook (a suburb of western Fort Worth) & close to several schools & parks with nice homes & many areas with huge trees + local creeks with water in them. Since coming back inside there was a phone call from a friend in the Carolinas and we talked about the bird situation; that person reported that in the past few weeks people around there have been noticing a lack of birds too but they thought it might be a result of the smoke from the distant wildfires causing this ... so?? Today I will start making phone calls to some news sources & also bird / wildlife groups in this region to see if they have been getting reports from others about how the local birds have been disappearing; I will give updates to report any information I get about this! Anonymous Coward User ID: 73552904 United States 12/05/2016 07:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Okay, wow, can't believe you posted this. I live in Florida and yesterday, I think it was, we heard just a weird quick short bird-ish noise and we both were like that's weird because it was so sudden. Quoting: Shasta 70885965 But then I'm like that's weird because I haven't heard birds in days and come to think of it didn't hear any today either. Now we usually heard tropical birds all year around and all different types too. Now this is weird. I'm going to try to pay closer attention tomorrow and report what I see but this is really weird. I would also like to add me and at least two other of my family members have had really strong high-pitched ringing in our ears for days now. Now I'm thinking could be related to weird extreme cold front they're predicting, but then they are not predicting it this far south or much in Texas either. Visited Central Florida yesterday and last week. Very creepy: No birds. Just one grebe on the lake. It's an area with tons of trees, bushes and lake. Normally ALL KINDS of birds, small, big, water - but yesterday - just a couple. Also no turtles. NO SQUIRRELS! With hickory nuts everywhere! Even NO MOSQUITOES! We used to have to wear long pants and sleeves when doing a bonfire but last week when we did this in shorts and t shirt we got ZERO BITES! Plus further north in Florida we have NO ANTS in the house. |

I forgot to add - 5+ years ago the house would be covered in about 20 anoles (lizards - like chameleons). Only one yesterday, and mostly we never see them anymore. |

Deplorable Alpacalips User ID: 57210108 United States 12/06/2016 10:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm in Houston. I feed the birds everyday in my back yard. I'm still seeing woodpeckers, blue jays, whippoorwills and other small brown birds. Of course there aren't as many as we have in the warmer months. I go through two or more bags of bird food a week in the summer. Last Edited by Alpacalips on 12/06/2016 10:49 AM |
