What would I do? Go down. Ditch, basement, sewer, hollow, aquaduct. GO DOWN! I'd make sure I was armed and I would go down as low as I could get. Then, I'd wait. I'd try to make sure I was in a place where access to the surface could not be blocked and I would wait and see. Once I was down, out of the way, then I'd pray. If I was home, I'd pull my list of things to do in case of a nuclear attack off my bulletin board and gather everyone in my house down in the basement. The first thing I'd have them do is fill our water barrels.

After the blast hits, we'd close all our windows, go to the back yard with hats on and cover the garden with tarps and collect everything we need from there we don't want contaminated, or to survive the next 3 weeks in the basement. When fallout begins, we'll come back inside and collect what we need from the house to the basement.

I'd use my Geiger counter to determine the areas of the basement with the lowest radiation levels, reinforce the doors against intruders, give everyone Iodine pills, and we'd set up to stay there for 3 weeks.
