Do 'real med bed exist'?

Every tv show and now movie using it. Kinda lost purrrpos..

I just started looking at Rand's med bed thing today and after quick searches, discovered lots of alt sites that say the same thing and use the same illustrations. It's as if the entire sci-fi scenario got jammed into one version and everyone is repeating it.

I like reading good sci fi or "speculative" fiction-- so I'm a fan of this med bed as an idea... it has lots of quantum mumbo jumbo as used on Star Trek so it's entertaining. It actually inspired me to think of my bed ridden 86 yr old partner I'm caring for in a little bit newer way-- as if I'm the high tech guy looking for new solutions. So I think med bed is more of an inspiration than a reality-- but that's good too!

Star Trek inspired some great inventions. Why shouldn't the med bed be 1 of them?

It's also said that Star Trek creator Gene Rodenberry had inside knowledge and that he presented it on Star Trek. Although, I don't recall a med bed.
