Re: I miss my dog
I got two sweet terriers off Craig's list, this after trying to get one from the humane society. The society was so intrusive, wanting all kinds of information they don't need.
Also try Petco where they will let you adopt right out of the gate when they have rescue days.

Also some elderly person may have gone home and their kids will give the dog away, may check into that.

Hi

I believe that The Humane Society is pretty political in its purpose. They only feature a few dogs and I had a pretty bad experience with one of their minimum wage employees.

People really should think before speaking of writing things, as in the freak/hater that wrote that 'you can't afford a pet', etc. Hahaha. No idea of my finances. Shame on him.

Thanks for your input, sweetheart.

I'm sorry you are going through this sad time. I have been there several times. Where I live, Animal Control usually discounts the price of dogs they have had for a good while and are nearing to the top of the list in regard to being killed (usually will go all the way down to $30). They are good natured dogs, but are usually pits or pit mixes or larger mixed breeds who no one notices. The small, cute dogs and puppies go fast. I got a black pit mix on her last day of availability and adore her. She is precious.

I'm sorry for your loss. I never had a dog until early last year. I never did "get it" before that. Now I do. Our family dog is wonderful. His name is Beau and he's an integral part of our family. He was in our family picture and we take him for car rides whenever we can. We love him.

I wish you luck and Merry Christmas!

Re: I miss my dog
For what it's worth, a lot of folks see their deceased pets during their NDE.

If it was a hallucination like a dream, they would likely also see pets that are still alive.

But they specifically see deceased pets and/or deceased relatives.

They are letting us know they will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge!

My big, old German Shepherd/Wolf, when he was still here, would come to the side of the bed when I would first lay down and nudge my upper arm and then give me a big, sloppy kiss on my cheek. And even now (he died a few years ago) I occasionally feel him nudge my arm and kiss my cheek. It's very comforting.

Re: I miss my dog
Maybe check some of the FB groups in your area as well, we got us a new cat from one. Poor baby girl is so tiny and pregnant. I could do without her being pregnant, but she needed someone to love her, and we do. MY old cat has been outside now for the past 6 years and he is still going strong at the ripe old age of 16. But having one in the house is so relaxing for me. My old cat refuses to come in the house any more, it was his choice to be outside.

However dogs, are another thing I got a Chiweewee off our local FB group and the lady I got him from told me all the wonderful stuff about him, house broken, crate trained, quiet, loves to play. Nope he was not house trained. I had to replace my blanket on my bed after he peed on it for 2 weeks, then had to replace the mattress. Yeah he loved playing, but would run away when he was outside, he also had no shots done. Vet bills galore. So watch it when getting a small dog. Hated baths, and chewed up the couch when he was left alone. Luckily he got a good home to an older lady that is now taking him to doggie school.

We adopted a Chihuahua from our local shelter $125 and the spay/ neuter paper didn't even cover half the neutering bill. I would recommend checking FB, and Craigslist then check around in free papers, or in your local paper for something that is free, we already pay for vet bills for shots and spay neuter why pay for a dog when we can get them free or with like $20 adoption fee.

This thread should be super pinned for support! Many feeling the pain.

I agree! I'm on page 4 and I've been crying during the entire thread. My sweet girl passed shortly after Mothers' Day, just 2 weeks short of 16. I miss her so much. I pass her grave every day on the way to the Chicken House and back. She was the last person to see my husband alive, she came to the house and got me when he collapsed in the yard but he was already gone when I got to him. I missed him of course, I still do and always will, but it was easier somehow having her nearby. This is my first Christmas without either of them, and it has been difficult to say the least. This thread has been very therapeutic for me, and has firmed my resolution to look for an adult dog rather than a puppy. I just have to try and save some money because the shelter charges at least $250, and rescues charge similarly.

If I were Donald Trump and wanted to do something really nice, I would go to all the animal shelters and secretly pay for all the adoption costs so that people who didn't have much money but who have a lot of love to give could rescue doggies and kitties who need that love.

My dog died in September. I am not one of a 'rebound' nature so I've been just trying not to think about dogs at all.

So, I'm going to go and get, or rescue a little dog. (Rules here for size of pets.) Unfortunately, the fee for a shelter dog is almost as much as for other dogs.

Any ideas on getting a dog? (No. I'm not going to steal a dog off the street - unless they are being abused or something like that.)

This is what did it for me. This video I saw this morning.

Sorry to hear....I got a puppy (first dog I've ever owned) and 4 months in she is the best. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose her, much less a dog that I had a ton longer.

I am sorry for your loss. I know the pain that is felt and it is tough.

I lost my chewy almost 2 years ago and it still hurts! I am tearing up now as I write this. He is the little guy in my pic.
<==============

I told him the night he died that he would always be with me and I promised him that I would speak his name everyday. And I do! I wrote little things in a notebook about him, little quirky things that he used to do that I would probably forget over time and its helped me. I take comfort in remembering something about him everyday.

I've had dogs all of my life and I miss every one of them who has passed on. I've also rescued many who I came to love but couldn't keep and I miss them, too.

All the best to you and your new baby, whoever that turns out to be, Ms Superduper. May you have lots of love and many, many happy years together.
In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined:

With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator.
