But he also said Mexico will pay for his wall, but he asked congress, ie, the American people to pay for it last week. |
~ hannah~ User ID: 73724152 United States 01/08/2017 01:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The whole social security thing just pisses me off no end. I'm going to be 63 this coming May, but what I will get is (naturally) not going to be enough to retire comfortably AT ALL. I'm going to meet early this year with a financial adviser (recommended by my office mate). I want off the hamster wheel of the corporate workplace. I just wonder if I can hang in for 4 more years. At times it seems doable as you know how fast a year can fly by. But, when you're miserable at your job 50% of the time, days drag. And if I can hang in 4 more years I'll be nearly 70! WTF? Didn't retirement age used to be 55 or something back in the 60s? Good luck to all of us out there aging. |
Deplorable NO MORE Michele B User ID: 28501606 United States 01/08/2017 01:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SS is unsustainable the way it is. People live a whole lot longer now than they did back when SS began. Back then, most people didn't live to see a whole year of collecting their SS payments. Of course, there were more people in the workforce, too. So there were more people paying INTO the system. Truth be told, if they took all the money each person paid in for their whole work life, and really INVESTED IT, there would be no problem; there would be plenty for our lifetimes. But, of course, Congress and all the THIEVES insist on stealing our money and using it for other things. So then they try to tell us there is NO money. But there certainly WOULD BE if we didn't have thieving reps stealing everything every chance they get. I have no problem with the 67 threshold. In fact, I believe it should go up even more for those who are even younger! People are living longer these days, and the future they will, too. |

No, it was always 65, but people saved their money and were able to retire WITH THEIR OWN MONEY, and not counting on the pittance of their Social Security that the government wants to dictate they can have. People today can do that too, but most don't save while working. Again, I'll say,, with life expectancies rising every year, I don't think it's a bad thing to raise the retirement age every couple of years. |

Denizen User ID: 71118737 United States 01/08/2017 02:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Social Security is not a full retirement system. SS is only a supplemental retirement and financial assistance for those that are disabled. It is funded through the general fund where once it was independent trust. That SS trust was used as a piggy bank rolled into the general fund during the Regan administration to alleviate deficit spending at the end game of the arms race during the cold war. Well, we won that one but never set things straight with SS funding. Result is a broken program with no popular solution. Welcome to the Deplorable States of TRUMP. If you want Social Security to be there for you at age 65, get off your stupid-phones, stop jerking off to online porn, get activist, get involved, and elect people to office who will do what you want. And stop whining. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73671486 Sweden 01/08/2017 02:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | LMFAO you fucking sheep and your government money, you'd all die without them. You all sit here hating the government but without them 90 percent of you would DIE. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38211723 While you do have a point, you need to consider, like here, the total taxation is about 90%. If there was no government and no tax, a swede could buy 10 times more of everything with their wage. In essence, one family member working could support the whole family + grandparents. The need for SS would basically evaporate. |
