I'd put my estimate of music's final downhill slope at around 2001 or 2002. Remember, early Matchbox 20 and 3 Doors Down with authentic alternative-rock bands with substance that made the airwaves. After that though, rock went down the shitter, just fake rap and pop crap, Autotune manufactured bull

I'd put it earlier, like '97ish.

It's like fucking night and day.

Hence why I stuck with punk (not the pop junk, SICK OF IT ALL!!!! Paint it Black, etc) Metal (Black Dahlia Murder, The Chariot, The Red Chord), and Ska. Actual talent.

Oh shot... Really? Those bands weren't that talented. There were way better things going on then but I do agree that somewhere around that time everything switched from rock to rap.

rap is so great, I listen to it for FREE now! I don't have to buy a single album or mp3! I hear it EVERYWHERE, all day long. Every morning I wake up, I hear rap coming from the neighbors windows and from the parking lots. Driving down the street, I hear rap coming from cars in front of me, beside me, and behind me, especially when I stop at a red light. Going shopping, I hear rap and hiphop in every store. This past December, I heard mostly rap and hiphop Christmas songs. Turn on the TV, all the commercials use rap and hiphop music. Seems like the only time I'm not listening to rap and hiphop music is when I'm sleeping and my bed is not vibrating from the neighbor's subwoofers.

Re: Music fell off a fucking cliff after 2002
The emergence of MTV as a pop culture medium in the mid-80's was a turning point. Once the progressive elites realized that they could shape American pop culture through a music channel, everything changed. MTV's first foray into political influence was Rock the Vote, which was basically just a leftist propaganda tool. Additionally it was used to kill good time rock music and replace it with neurotic, depressive "grunge" and rap, which brought the worst elements of black urban ghetto life to mainstream white suburbia. If you listen to the tone and subject matter of rock from the 80's, it was all about chasing girls and having a good time being a young white male. The MSM elites targeted that message for destruction by shunning it and injecting rap thuggery into everything, just as their predecessors had injected hippie counter-culturalism into sitcoms and cartoons a generation earlier. What destroyed music? Leftist politics; the same way it destroys everything else it touches.

Spot on. Mtv was a novelty in the beginning. after a few years the change began. Mtv was #14 on our 3 row push button cable box.

Never go above 80's on satellite radio and rarely above 70's. Calling anything later music is very slim pickins.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70296856

I think the real question here is why would anybody listen to Satellite radio. It barely sounds better than AM.

FM sounds better than Sirius XM. If I want to Listen to a specific genre I turn on Pandora.

Makes sense.
I just looked it up.

Sirius channels are 38 Kbps.

Pandora is 384kbps.

It's that bad. I canceled after my free subscription was up.
