Towns: willow creek, Hoopa, burnt ranch, salyer, Hawkins bar.

And hey, I'm an older single woman. I work full time at s little store and burn wood for heat. I also live in crappy low income housing which is a run down duplex in a rough neighborhood.

Not everyone in rural areas lives on acreage in a farm house with a barn. There are apartments here without wood heat and as a tenant you cannot just hook up your building with gas appliances or fire up a generator. That is the landlords decision.

And yeah I have plenty of food and water for myself. Many of you. Neighbors do not.

Fuck that shit. I will evacuate asap. If I couldn't I would make a bonfire outside. Then eat my pets. Melt the snow to get water using cotton 100% cloth like clean shirt. Spare my under wear. Wear one piece of underwear for a week. Wear only two outfits outside. Oh. Leave small dish of food outside. If I see cats on my porch. I'm shooting them dead and eating them. Lol XD.

Ps. I don't have a garage or a yard. If I put food "out in the snow" raccoons and dogs would drag it all over the street. I have some food in a cooler with snow.

It's actually quite difficult to maintain all of this at my age. And some of your cruel posts make me think you are city people who don't really know what it's like to live in a rural area but Luke to brag like you do.

People here are pulling together in an emergency, not taunting each other for not being Rambo or owning a great cabin.

I know that it is snowing hard North of here, because it is cold with heavy rains in the Bay Area. Why there would be a lack of coverage by the media is beyond me. I'll start questioning the media from here. In the meantime, Take some if that snow, place it in a container and stick it in your ice box to keep your food cold.

I'm not saying we need to be rescued. Do you have a crop of potatoes in the barn buddy? Where did your food come from today? I wish I did have my own property all set up for living off of the grid. If you do that's great.

It's cruel to taunt a community that is struggling in a storm. This isn't a movie. My point is just that our infrastructure is out dated and out of repair and there many people who don't live in some idealic prepper property. There are elderly people and children in crappy housing who are vulnerable.

And I'm online with my phone that I am charging in my car btw

Hang tight OP we are south of you, not too far from La Porte, CA and just got over a 28 hour outage. Most elderly people in parks like our have electric heat, they will die in the future, I am certain this is all just forcing people into the city concentration center. Fight back OP, have every thing you need, NEED NOTHING from them, and also, expect them to hate you for that.

Also, PGE charges 12.5 per kwh at the higher levels and yet their levels do not allow any sort of electric heat to function for these poor retired Americans, and those in charge know that. Electric bills that are half the rent. They want the old to die. Myself I live with the old and cherish them.

This is crazy! I live in Northern Cali and haven't heard anything about power outages. I'm an hour N of SF and have had non-stop rain until late morning today. We are "expecting" a doozy come Friday.

We left our home further North (Jefferson :D) getting out apparently, just in time. The snow was hammering. I would have loved to stay, but work and all if you know what I mean.

The snow? Yes, put your ice chest out in the snow, this works great. We had to do it last year when we lost power for a few days.

Prayers for you all. Don't let yourself get too cold. Stay inside, if you can. Share with neighbors only those you trust. Stone soup if you must. Why? What goes around comes around. Mostly, just share with the elderly who single people who don't have family to help.

People are still hard hit these days, some might not have any food stocked up.

I keep a horse blanket around just in case. It's never gotten cold enough here to use it though.

One winter it was cold enough everything was freezing, including running fountains in peoples yards.

I was trying to save money on my heating bill so I left the heater off and tried the horse blanket out.

I was sweating bullets within 15 minutes. I had to find another way to keep warm because that blanket was too hot, lol.

I don't know what it's made of, but damm. I got it from my ex who was from Idaho.
Yeah I did it, and it can't be undone.

It's bad here right now. Several rural towns have no power. All of our businesses are closed and our food is rotting in our fridges.

The word around town is that multiple power lines are down from recent freak snow storms, and that it could be weeks of helicopter work to restore power to more than 3000 people.

There is no mention of the scale of this problem in any local media. People are freaking out. It's a 100 mile round trip to nearest town with power.

This is real doom folks. Suddenly without power, people cannot cook or stay warm. Some have wood stove. I have some food stored up and water. The grid is fragile here. I feel like I'm in a 3rd world country.
 Quoting: Nor-cal farm laborer 72983441

You need to drain your house pipes of all water NOW, (just turn off the well pump, drain open the spigot on the well tank and drain it. Then open the lowest spigot on your house to drain the pipes. Make sure to hold any sink sprayers vertical to drain them also, as a small freezing water drops will break the sink sprayer. Put RV antifreeze in your toilets.

After you have winterized your house, drive to a location (hotel or stay with relatives) with electrical power. Be prepared to stay there for a month!!

We lost power in NY due to many fallen trees a few years ago, and it was off for 12 days--- people were going crazy. Its better to leave your location then to stay in a house with no power in the wintertime.

"There's no power - a foot snow - our food is going bad".

Did it ever occur to you to empty your freezer, and put that shit in the snow?

Do you own a cooler? I'm sure you do.

How are the solar panels working out for the climatards there?
Or the EPA wanting to ban wood burning stoves?

I feel sorry for you guys, and even here this could easily happen. 10 years ago all houses still had to be built with a fireplace, but not any more. When winter strikes more and more people are exposed if electricity is lost for any length of period.

Screw Liberal California!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71247959

Except the area OP is talking about has no liberals.

California is a large state. The population centers in the south and along the coast are where the libs live.

The rest of us are regular people.

The area where I live is rural and we are forecast to have some serious storms this coming weekend. The largest rainfall totals in over ten years are predicted.

There will be mass power outages and flooding. But we aren't snowflakes. We have generators and preps to last months. And guns. Because we know we are the last on the list to receive any assistance in this fucked-up state.

Educate yourself before spouting off about 'liberal California'.
 Quoting: Crunch62

Then fix your state instead of it taking down the country.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71247959

We are vastly outnumbered here. The only way for rural Californians to have effective representation would be to split the state. State of Jefferson, et al. Currently, the Liberals control this state due to sheer numbers, but they are concentrated in the cities.

If you are truly concerned about CA 'taking down the country', you might offer constructive comments instead of snide remarks.
 Quoting: Crunch62

Just like Minnesota.

If you look at a county by county election map,the twin cities and five people that live in the arrow head turned the state over to the democrats.

Basically two counties control the state.

If people live that far away from town, they are stupid not to have preps an contingencies to stay warm and have foo.

Seems like a no-brainer to put your refrigerated stuff outside or in the garage if it is 'rotting' due to electricity being out.

People who are not prepared have no business living that far out of town.
