Sears Selling "Craftsman" To Stanley Black & Decker
Sears Holdings Corp. agreed to sell its Craftsman tool brand to Stanley Black & Decker Inc. for about $900 million, marking Chief Executive Officer Edward Lampert’s third move in the last two weeks to prop up the beleaguered retailer with fresh sources of funding.

Stanley will pay $525 million at closing and $250 million after three years, the companies said in a statement Thursday. The buyer also will make annual payments on new Craftsman sales for 15 years.

Re: Sears Selling "Craftsman" To Stanley Black & Decker
The transaction provides Stanley Black& Decker with the rights to develop, manufacture and sell Craftsman-branded products in non-Sears Holdings retail, industrial and online sales channels across the U.S. and in other countries. As part of the agreement, Sears Holdings will continue to offer Craftsman-branded products, sourced from existing suppliers, through its current retail channels via a perpetual license from Stanley Black& Decker, which will be royalty-free for the first 15 years after closing and royalty-bearing thereafter.

What the hell is "Craftsman" anyway? It's just a sticker overtop another brand-name. My "Craftsman" lawnmower was actually an MTD.

Same goes with anything "Kenmore."

Fuck'em. Black and Decker and Craftsmen used to be the highest quality around. I have some of their old handtools made from real metal with real bearings, not plastic shit.

Will never buy another one of their products....EVER.

Sears has been in trouble for a long time. Ford specifically mentioned Trump's policies, so there's that.

In the 1990s Craftsman sockets were cast in China and the chrome put on in the US so they could qualify as made in USA. I don't imagine it has improved since then.

Naw...USA Craftsman is right in the middle between really cheap crap and the professional quality tools.....kinda like Pro lite.....

It does have a following so when they went China, I bought a bunch of USA Craftsman tools to sell....look at Ebay, sellers are charging a hefty premium for their NOS Craftsman stuff....and getting it....

Re: Sears Selling "Craftsman" To Stanley Black & Decker
We've got a really good Sears in my old Chicago neighborhood. Multilevel. The neighborhood isn't doing so well with buisnesses because the price for commercial space is unbelievably high. Lots of long time businesses gone. That particular section though where the Sears is bounced back and is doing good once more. If we lose it, I think we will lose a lot of other businesses there again. Just makes me pretty sad - that was once a really amazing part of Chicago and I loved growing up there. Still considered a great neighborhood but I don't think for much longer. Next few years will be devastating..

I've seen craftsman tools at ACE hardware.

Does Sears own ACE?

That would explain why ACE is so damn high priced.

Foolish for sears to sell to black and decker right when the made in USA trend is picking up steam. Instead they should have announced they were bringing production back to the USA and bringing back the terms of their original warranty, They could raise prices more than their cost increased and ridden the made in America trend. Could get rid of all non USA merchandise and let Walmart sell the bedsheets and other bs.

Would have been the biggest comeback in American History.
