How come Hospitals do not display prices on a BillBoard?
Since we pride ourselves on consumer oriented capitalism, how come hospitals do not have a billboard like we see at McDonald at the reception desk?

I understand that for emergency care it would not work, but why not separate emergent care vs routine operations to drive competition?

If I need a face lift, a few stitches, a sore looked at, the flu, how come prices are not displayed up front to drive competition and capitalism?

There are no profits to be made in letting consumers choose
If it were not for trade pacts with Communist China for example, shareholders would not be as wealthy.

Corporations and their puppets want to choose for you

The Insurance Industry that wrote Obamacare said we know what is good for you

How did that work out?

Here, we will devise a plan B as long as we are allowed on the team to revise it.......

Wendys and Mcdonalds charge different prices and that helps Capitalism and Competition

They should show their different prices up front and on a billboard like McDonalds

4 Stitches at Hospital A = 200 Bucks
4 Stitches at Hospital B = 50 Bucks
Cold and Flu = 50 Bucks
Cold and Flu = 100 Bucks

What I see a lot of is people claiming to support capitalism but then not supporting it when it cuts into their money

Since you used the fast food example:
Suppose you enter a McDonalds with 500 types of meats, 800 types of bread(for each end, top and bottom), 200 types of cheese. How will YOU make a prices billboard for all combinations. Each case can be different, there might be complications and "ifs and buts". We are talking about your health, not a god damn burger.

Healthcare is the only industry where they get to charge you whatever they want when they are done. The bills never stop rolling in, some from doctors/procedures you never even seen.

It's harder to screw consumers when you post prices. Denninger has been harping on this for years. What the medical industry does is illegal for any other field. Get the government out of health care and enforce market rules. Prices drop from 50 to 80 per cent.

They could categorize the procedures in groups and charge a flat fee for each.

Your 10 different kinds of hamburgers could be turned into one and charged an average price accordingly.

A Bacon Cheesebugers + Whopper + Big Mac + Quarter Pounder =
$2.75

There are many procedures that could group and charge an average price

I have been in restaurants that had a 10 page menu.
The amount they had to offer was staggering

I have catalogues from mail order companies that number in the thousands of pages.'

I have websites like New Egg I buy from that house thousands of products

How come they can list the price for each item but hospitals cannot display the price up front for routine procedures?

How do companies that offer thousands of services up front able to survive then?

How come there is not a search-able database for prices at hospitals where I can see what they charge?

Results come out OK

Total bill 10 bucks

Helath is not a product. It can't be bought. You can pay good doctors, but you can never buy health. The product being bought is the doctors knowledge and the medical supply. The illness itself is not the product. A pill that works for you, might not be good for me, I might be alergic. A cut can be stitched, but depending on the area, the level of difficulty(thus doctor specialization, ie, knowledge) changes. A broken bone might need plaques, surgery, screws, different pain killers. Things are not black and white when it comes to the human body. We are not standardized machines like a car or a computer.

Fair Enough
But allowing these same industries to write healthcare is a recipe for disaster as we see with Obamacare

Let the poor working man write policies for this country and we will see skill less work worth 20 bucks an hour, that is a human failing

I want the Healthcare and Insurance Industry absolutely no where near national policies and that is what happened with Obamacare and for that, all Americans rich and poor are paying for it

Any revisions or reforms should omit the beneficiaries from it

That's a WHOLE different topic and should get its own thread. We are talking about a billboard of prices for medical procedures here. Your concern is much more political than medical.

They will. Its coming extremely soon.

All my medical test done now where I get them done are on a menu with pricing. Each month they run specials.

Don't believe me?

the FTC requires McDonalds to post their prices for their products before a customer makes a purchase

Why doesn't the Federal Trade Commission require

the Mega Hospitals that don't pay income taxes because of their 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status to POST PRICES

yet the CEO's make millions from these NO TAX PAYING companies
