The Return of Your Own Camp

Being who you are may very well be one of the most challenging endeavors that you will take on in your lifetime. Indeed, you are the master of your own life, yes? If so, then why not challenge yourself to return to your own camp?

What is your camp, you may ask? Your camp is the most intimate part of yourself. The part of yourself that you rarely allow yourself to see; that part of yourself that is often lost after your childhood years; after you begin listening to others as your master instead of yourself. To begin to learn how to trust your own camp, your intimate self, you must learn to trust yourself; to trust your intuition - that gut part of you, that inborn part of you that you have allowed others to control.

You may think this is not the case. However, when was the last time you followed your gut instinct when it was clearly different than what your outer camp fellows would do or say? I thought so. Why do we find it so difficult to stand our ground and protect our own camp? Ridicule? Abandonment?

We have several layers of being within this one being of ours. Simply put, they are your gut level or soul level, physical level, emotional level, and mental/mind level. When approaching life operating in any one of these levels instead of operating on all levels, you have split your intimate camp. You have split yourself into pieces who are often in conflict with each other.

Once we learn how to operate within our being as a whole and not separate our camp, we learn how to accept our entire camp. Unity becomes the norm within us, we find peace within our own camp, and we begin to see the outer camp in a whole new way.

Side note: Definition of parent: "a person who brings up and cares for another" (Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary).

Be your own parent to your camp. Be yourself in all ways. Be all that is, was, and will ever be of your intimate self. Be whole. You can do it. You are the master/parent of your own destiny. Don't allow anyone to take that away from you. Enter your own self and become the parent of yourself. Become your own camp.

The Power of Letting Go of Illusions

Mark Twain once said something to the effect that, “It’s not the things we don’t know that cause us trouble, it’s the things we know that aren’t so.”

A brief look at history confirms that. The “knowledge” that the earth was flat kept thousands confined to the “Old World”. The “knowledge” that black Africans were not human justified the cruelty of slavery. The “knowledge” that one race, or ethnic or religious group is better than others repeatedly justifies mass murder.

In every human endeavor such “knowledge” leads to harmful behavior, justifies inhumanity, and prevents the discovery of truth. In short, what we know causes trouble.

It happens in individual lives as well. The things we know that aren’t so are illusions. We build up these illusions over time. By them we learn to deal with the world. To some extent they deserve us well. They also bind us. Although they serve us, they keep us from experiencing life as it is. They keep us from joy. They keep us from success. The power to succeed, to enjoy life, and to experience reality as it is can be found in letting go of illusions.

The illusion that keep us bound are legion. There are however three primary illusions: 1) The illusion that things “must” be a certain way 2) The Illusion that things “should” be a certain way and 3) the illusion that things “are” a certain way.

1) The Illusion That Things “Must” be a Certain Way: We often tell ourselves and believe the lie that things “must” be a certain way. “I must make so many dollar to be happy.” “So and so must love for me to be secure.” “I must experience such and such for life to be exciting.”

This illusion is also often stated, "I have to...." The truth is you don't have to anything, except die, and even that you have considerable control of how and when. "Have to's” are always conditional. The problem is we often forget the conditions. You only have to if you want a particular outcome, or want to avoid a particular consequence. The old saying is wrong, you don't even have to pay taxes. (You could evade them illegally, you could reduce your income below a taxable amount, you could move out of the country...you have options depending what consequences you're willing to bear.)

A word about goals: Goals are important; they drive us forward and give us direction. They shape our efforts. The trouble is when we make happiness, security, excitement, peace of mind, or whatever other state we desire dependent on achieving our goal. Economic forces beyond any one person’s control affect everyone. You can't make someone love you. The experience you seek depends on forces beyond your control. To make any desired state dependent on outside forces is to give up power.

Goals are a statement of what we commit ourselves to and what we hope to achieve. They are not a statement of what must be. Once you make goals a “must” you have given up power to forces that have no respect for you and your desires.

There is a deadly variation of "I have to..". "I can't" robs more people of happiness and the life they want for themselves than any other illusion. "I can't" might mean, "I don't want to pay the price", or "I don't know how", or "I'm afraid to." I rarely truly means it is impossible.

Are you telling yourself you can't have the life you truly want?

2) The illusion that things should be a certain way: Untold time and energy are wasted bemoaning the fact that things are not as they “should” be. “Should” according to who? Isn’t “should” just another way of saying what you want?

A parent says, “You should play nicely with each other.” Doesn’t she mean, “I want you to play nicely. Things will be better for you, for me, and everyone else if you play nicely. I won’t punish you if you play nicely....and so on.”

“Should” is a way of appealing to a higher authority. Should is according to some unstated higher power; government, morality, or God.

The problem with “should” is twofold. First, it is too easy to focus on the disparity between way things “should” be and the way thing are. The feeling of disappointment, or even despair, that go with this is disempowering. You are even less capable of achieve what you desire. Things are not as they should be, things are out of your control. That’s the reality of things. If you thought otherwise you were operating under an illusion. You gave up your happiness, your peace, and your security to things you can’t control.

Second, an appeal to a higher power is an abdication of your own power. While we can not do all things, we can do many things. Why say “should” when you can say “I want” or “I would like”? Accept responsibility for what you want. Let others know the consequences of their action and let them accept the responsibility of their actions. "Should" is an equivocation. The Ten Commandments read, "Thou shall..."., not "You should..."

3) The illusion that things “are” a certain way: This is the most persistent illusion of all. It is hard to let go because there is an objective reality out there independent of our observations and perceptions.

However, no matter how much of the picture we have, we have only a part of the total picture. There is always another way of looking at it. We need to try to be as accurate as possible in our perceptions, but when we fool ourselves into thinking we have the most accurate perception and perspective possible we are playing God.

What is more true the beauty of a sunrise, or the grief of losing a loved one? There is a time for each, but you can take neither and say, "this is the way things are". Moment by moment we choose our focus. Do you focus on those things that empower you and advance your goals, or on those things that sap your strength and determination.

Ignorance, not knowing, is easy. The solution is learning and the resources are plentiful. It's the things that you "know" that hold you back from the life you want.

Is there some other illusion that holds you back from pursuing the life you want? Letting go of illusions is an act of will. You alone can decide what you will focus on. You alone can decide what you truly want and are willing to strive for. You alone can decide which outcomes will be the conditions of a "have to..."

Getting ahead, and getting what you want in life is often not a matter of what you know , or even who you know. It's a matter of what you are willing to not know.

Knowing Our Heart’s Desire
FEELING JEALOUS


Jealousy is one of the toughest feelings we come up against in our lives. There is not much worse than this aching sense that somehow life has been unfair to us, while amply rewarding someone else.

It’s even worse if that someone else is present in our daily lives, making it difficult for us to get the space we need to feel and heal our pain. We may be jealous of a sibling, a dear friend, or even famous personalities. We may even face the challenge of feeling jealous of our spouse, our child, or one of our parents. Whatever the case, we can normalize our experience by understanding that, as painful as it is, jealousy is a common human feeling.

Nevertheless, it is important that we not revel in our jealousy for too long, feeding it with inner talk or gossip with others. If we do, we run the risk of losing ourselves to its negative power.

Jealousy has something good to offer us, though, and that is information about our own heart’s desire. When we are jealous of certain people, we want what they have, and if we are to be conscious, we must acknowledge that. In this way, we discover what we want for ourselves, which is the first step to getting it. It may be a certain kind of relationship or a career. Whatever it is, it is possible that we could create it for ourselves, in our own lives, if we are able to honor our own desires.

Of course, there are times when we cannot heal our jealousy in this way, and then the lesson may be about acceptance and the understanding that our path is different from the paths of those around us.

It may be hard to see now, but perhaps it will eventually be clear why our life has taken its particular path.

In the end, the best cure for jealousy is the recognition that the life we have is full of its own meaning and beauty, utterly unique to us—a gift that could never be found in the life of another.

Great post, and so true! Thank you. To me, this ties in very well with Sunpar's writing about grounding ~ being your own "ground crew" and not looking outside yourself ONLY for answers. *YOU are your own ground crew.*

So many lightworkers live in a pink bubble of illusion. It's time to get strong ~ get grounded within yourself ~ cuz really tough times are just now beginning. Buckle up, get your preps ready.

One of your preps is to face yourself ~ face all of your most dearly-held illusions ~ face real life and conquer it ~ or you will go down in the coming whirlwind.
