I don't know if I should apply for Obamacare now.
I would be with no insurance from March 1 to October 1, at which time I will get Medicare.

I already had an Obamacare plan picked out and planned to apply after January 15, which would make the in effect date, March 1. The plan would cost me $147 per month.

That number reflects a subsidy of $655.

So...the policy cost would actually be about $800 per month without the subsidy.

Now there is talk of Trump wanting to eliminate Obamacare within a few weeks of taking office and while he may not get rid of all of it, he may eliminate the subsidies!

I can't afford $800 a month and neither can most.

So I am in a quandary...do I risk it until October or do I buy the plan hoping he will not touch the subsidy?

Any thoughts.

If you sign up now, you might get grandfathered in.

At least you will have insurance for now..

Then Those old rates will be gone under the new system

And the rates will be much much lower.

Of that 800 per month you would be paying under Obamacare rates about 60% of that figure goes to insure other people

I bunch of the new plans put forward have a note that if you have a gap in coverage you can't sign up. If that stipulation stays into whatever gets push you better not have any period without coverage or you will be shit out of luck.

Open enrollment for Obamacare ends on January 31, after which it won't be available until the next open enrollment which is in November and would start in January 2018

As for the gap mentioned above..currently, if you go 3 months without insurance, you will have to pay the penalty which for a single person is about $695.
