New Report - 8 Richest Men Own More Wealth Than Bottom Half On Earth/3.6 Billion People

To me the most disturbing aspect of all of this is that these few purposely keep the world in a state of need and despair because competition for resources is what powers the capitalist system. And don't tell me it's survival of the fittest. If we apply the quantification's of sheer actualproductivity , intelligence, morality and willingness to coexist in a mutually beneficial manner with all humanity few of the present elite would qualify as "fittest". they're "fittest" only within a flawed system where the most dishonest , ruthless and conscienceless are at great advantage.

These are NOT the best humanity has to offer, If that were true our engineers, skilled laborers, scientists and geniuses would be living in the big mansions where the worthless business majors would live in abject poverty, since they actually contribute NOTHING.Calling them job creators is deceptive since they use their employees as tools of profit and would do away with them if there is a machine that can replace them.

We now have the technology available to provide a comfortable ,equitable existence for every human being on Earth. The elite are keeping the world trapped in this system of scratching and fighting for resources because it allows this inequality to exist. It is possible for every human family on the planet to enjoy a "middle class" level of existence without any competition for resources.

The gap between the super-rich and the poorest half of the global population is starker than previously thought, with just eight men, from Bill Gates to Michael Bloomberg, owning as much wealth as 3.6 billion people, according to an analysis by Oxfam released Monday.

Presenting its findings on the dawn of the annual gathering of the global political and business elites in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, anti-poverty organization Oxfam says the gap between the very rich and poor is far greater than just a year ago. It's urging leaders to do more than pay lip-service to the problem.

If not, it warns, public anger against this kind of inequality will continue to grow and lead to more seismic political changes...

"It is obscene for so much wealth to be held in the hands of so few when 1 in 10 people survive on less than $2 a day," said Winnie Byanyima, executive director of Oxfam International, who will be attending the meeting in Davos. "Inequality is trapping hundreds of millions in poverty; it is fracturing our societies and undermining democracy."

The same report a year earlier said that the richest 62 people on the planet owned as much wealth as the bottom half of the population. However, Oxfam has revised that figure down to eight following new information gathered by Swiss bank Credit Suisse...

People living in desperate poverty in the third world need to get their private parts under control, and stop having children they can't take care of.

What is this "wealth" you speak of?

If you are alive and well, you have 100% of the wealth.

People are poor for a reason. They are bad with money. I never knew a person who is good with money and is poor.

Say that to the slaves

Would you rather they horde their wealth, or would you rather they shutter their businesses and eliminate thousands of jobs when they hit your arbitrary wealth limit?

The real wealth is land - eg the Queen owns about half of Australia. Tons of Canada.
