Ill share a story , testimony helps.

My dad was of the 60s and had prejudice against blacks , for some reason at 6 when I saw or heard it hurt.

When I was around 10 years old riding a bus to see my aunt missed the transfer and so did a black girl my age. Now my dad had instilled in me fear of strangers and color. That girls dad scooped me and her up , chased the bus down and placed us on it and treated me as if I was his own...

I do not believe in coincidences , that changed my life and God allowed me to see what he looks at and it is not the skin color , but the heart.

I'm so sorry, I didn't realize we lowly serfs were in the presence of her Majesty.. Please get over yourself lady.

Like you, I tend to think a lot of it was made up, but I don't really know.

The reason I don't care is because his mission and Godly purpose in life was a phenomena that helped oppressed blacks.

At that time, blacks were cruelly treated, and there was a existential need for the USA to fix the problem pronto.

MLK, like Gandhi, did it through PEACEFUL resistance and calling all people to be judged on their character.

I'd like to add that his message would not have changed a thing if tens of thousands of white people hadn't stood with him; been arrested and killed with him. His Granddaughter knows this, bless her.
