America is bankrupt and the Annual Deficit is over $1T per year - they have a shortfall of spending to tax income of over $1T per year. You can't raise taxes to make up that amount. The current annual tax income of the Fed Govt is around $2.7T per year. To make up another $1T by increasing taxes is insane. Now Obama has jacked up spending like no other, and efficient expense cuts can be made across the board to get back some of this, but yes, tariff income is where the US Fed should get a large chunk of their income. I'm just saying that it's not going to be an easy transition. |

At the same time I know his hands will be tied on how much he will actually accomplish because even though the House and Senate belong to the Reps, most reps are loyalists and work for London. (ALL Democraps do). But the natural consequences of ending slavery is higher cost to build and therefore higher price tags. Imported goods from Europe will also be more expensive due to tariffs. There will be a hard adjustment time before things level out. Jobs will come back, but everything will be much more expensive. There is a trade off here. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70758198 United States 01/17/2017 12:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you want to see the end result of tariffs on an economy, look at Brazil. They put tariffs on products to try and create jobs and manufacturing in the country, but it doesn't work. I like Trump, but just like history shows communism fails in countries, history also shows tariffs cause more problems than they solve. Standing on an assembly line in a manufacturing company is a non skilled low wage job. Unions try to convince management that the jobs are skilled and require higher wages but they don't. If they were skilled jobs, unskilled cheap workers in foreign countries couldn't do the jobs. The unskilled employees that lost their jobs in the decline of manufacturing should instead better themselves and become high paid skilled employees or business owners, instead of whining to the government to save them with taxes. It's like listening to a bunch of snowflakes. |

Lincoln wanted to send blacks back to Africa after the civil war. He was killed before he could do it. He knew a free black man would not be good long term for the USA. Lincoln was used as a tool by TPTB of the day. He didn't want war, but his handlers convinced him to create the conditions where war was impossible to avoid. TPTB wanted war and they got it. |

If other countries had to pay the same standard of living wages as everyone else...then competition wouldn't come at the worker's expense, but at the mark up and profit margin level. Since it doesn't work that way...tariffs are the only way to balance the market. It's not like China, Mexico, etc.... is going to suddenly start paying their workers comparable wages to the EU or USA. Only idiots hate facts |
