It's been proven some Native Americans actually have verifiable skills in predicting the future. It became useful during the Viet Nam war and was one reason Natives were soon able to keep their hair long. It was assumed there was a relationship between keeping their hair at a certain length and using their senses to guide them through the jungle. Then again many Native Americans were in tune with the outdoor environment and the sounds of nature and could sense where the enemy was hiding disguised by native plants and grasses.
