How can China legitimately lay claim to the Spratly Islands? Its nearest neighbors are Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines. Not China. Also these "no fly zones" over the South China Sea. Who the hell do they think they are?

Not a chance in hell. Tillerson just recently said that China can be prevented from building more artificial islands in international waters of the South China Sea, and block them from accessing the existing ones they built.

In a war, if the US used everything at its disposal, China would go down pretty quick. Take out Beijing (head of the snake), Shanghai (its financial hub), Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc. (telecom and commerce hubs), and a few more nasties, and they will be back to living in dirt like their people do in the Gobi desert parts of the country.

China is a currency and trade manipulator and a thief stealing proprietary property so they don't have to spend their own R&D. They have ongoing border disputes with India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Myanmar, Philippines, and more. What does that by itself say?

I do think this is not up to the US to say what happens over there. US needs to stay out of this. It is not our fight. China may be in the wrong, but why is it for us to do anything about it? Trump is trying to get US back into a great situation again, and he surely doesn't need to be getting involved in a war that is way on the other side of the world, especially when it is none of our concern. We already know that he has huuuuuge cahones, he doesn't need to have a war with China to prove it.

I agree in principle, but the thing is that China has built and armed a series of artificial islands in international waters, far from China's shores. They claim the entire Sea, and by arming the islands, they are threatening vital commercial shipping and commerce which translates into economic war. What needs to happen is that countries in the area pony up and bond together to take care of that shit. I would like to see Japan, Vietnam, Australia, others say enough is enough.

The placement of missiles etc on islands is a concern- but poking a hornets nest is worse (for us).
