They're doing just that in my little railroad town just north of Richmond, VA.
There are two options on the table:
-Either they add a third rail through the town, OR bypass the town and bulldoze homes, property, etc to make room for the rail.

This is all under the disguise of "high speed rail" and being sold to the public as such, but it's being backed by CSX, and will involve mostly freight, not passenger train.

The unions won't allow any trains in the US if they aren't involved and once they are involved it pushes the price of traveling by train up past the point of economic common sense. Plus, high speed commuter trains would conflict with the few small air carriers that are currently just barely hanging on.

Hopefully they will build a Tram on top of the new wall so we can flip off the illegals trying to scale the wall.

President Trump is a negotiator, that's what he does. Unlike the last few presidents, he has America's interests in mind while negotiating trade deals. He has set himself up to negotiate from a position of power, so the deals should be a lot better for America. He may not get everything he says he is going to, because the first statement is his starting position, but he will get us a good deal. High speed rail has been on the radar for a long time, but I'm not sure it is a priority with anyone. There are a lot of other projects that he can move quickly on to return jobs to America.

Up and coming people, MILLENIALS are not like real people. They want to live in a box and use the rail.

Anyways it's better we partner with the UK, Japan and the likes, powerful, employees countries than pander to broke ass Mexico.

Never say never....there once was a love affair with the automobile because it brought more freedom to the average American....now....not so much....easy and cheap ways of getting around....people working from home in mass....I can see tremendously fewer cars in the not too distant future

That's what they are doing in Texas with our high speed rail between Dallas and Houston. They are BUYING the right of way. All the landowners are against it. I know some of them, and some are in my immediate family.
I know that crawls all over people, and it does me too, but lets face it, without the ability the buy right of ways, there would be no freeways.

They are building high speed rails from St. Louis to Chicago. And we are middle of the country. I always take the train if I am going to either city. I hate driving and parking in the city.

True, but to be honest, and to re-enforce your point, this is how most people live in those countries. not just young and old people.

The american lifestyle was impressive 40 years ago. But that is when men where expected to to be able to maintain their own homes and two cars for the family. Including working a job to provide the funds for both. Now, cars are very difficult and/or expensive to work on. Insurance is incredibly expensive and required by law. Homes have to be kept upto standards for HOA, insurance, and/or mortgage reasons. When there are two adults in a household, they are often both both working.

But I also read a study about how like 70% of 18-34 year olds are not married ... So there are no households forming anyway ...

slow speed rail is the only reason 80% of the lousiana purchase -- and for that matter -- most texas was settled in the first place. why not, after 200 years implement high speed rail? Should we spend the billions in every other freaking p.o.s. country on the other side of the world in futile, never ending wars instead? Europe does not do that. Japan does not do that ...
