Its one of those promotions where you have 100$ to play the slots for free, on the house. I got lucky and won 300$. The casino rules says I can claim 200$ of those. But I have to make a 20$ deposit on the casino first.

My fear is that I never get to see this money again. But its a big online casino, with good credentials and testimonials, and a good reputation around the Internet, in gambler's forums and casino watch-dogs, etc.

I guess they do this to lure new players. The casino always has the advantage, so the more players they have, the more money they make, even if that means giving some free money to some lucky bastards like me!

Anyway, what would you do?

It's a scam. If they needed the $20 they would take it out of your winnings-send you $180. Don't do it. They just want more of your personal information.

Personally I think you are taking a huge risk with online casinos since there is really no way to tell if the games are rigged or otherwise fradulent. Also if you DID win big what recourse would you have if they refused to pay or claim that YOU cheated? If you want to gamble, do it live and in person, it's much more fun. That aside...

Go ahead and risk the $20 bucks. It's gambling right? Don't give any personal account information or credit card info, just send a certified check or whatever gives the least amount of personal information. Then if they pay you, spend the $20 on account and stop online gambling! If they rip you off, then you're only out $20 and so much the wiser.

I'm not sure why they need the 20$. Maybe to know I'm a real person? The 20$ is to buy casino credits. Thats the way every online casino does this days. I guess they expect me to play more and lose the money. I mean, they have an advantage on every game, and ststisticaly, they keep around 5% of every buck that gets in. They are betting that I will play more.

You know what, I just migth...

Tell them to deduct it from the winning money.
Else,(which is likely) just leave them.
All casinos work for profit, and internet casinos can be as shady as they like. Its very hard to bring a proof of "virtual win" without the online casino agreeing with that.

Everyone tells me not to do it. But you know what? I just might. I think I'll go for the "Online Casino bonus Whoring" challenge:

Aside from all the profit/loss/probability rationale, this is pretty exciting!

Don't gamble. It can become addictive. I know people that have succumbed to the gambling, and a few that have committed suicide because of it.

my husband won $2000 with only a few dollars spent, and it spiraled him into a gambling addiction that almost ended us in divorce. I went to a few of his GA meetings with him (I wouldn't spend a buck on gambling), and I heard how some of them had lost everything, their families, their homes, their cars, and some over $100K. It can become a real sickness.

He sold big tools and other things, pawned jewelry and other things to get money to gamble. The only thing that stopped him, is that he can't drive anymore. We have three casinos within 11 miles in different directions.

Believe me, I don't feel the same about him as I did before the gambling, but our kids don't want him being a homeless person on the streets, so he is still here, and I am still resenting him BIGTIME!

I'm sorry about your husband. Yes, there are a lot of sad stories involving gambling. But I consider myself a self controlled person. And besides, I'd be gambling with the casino money, not mine.

I would never gamble with money I cant afford to lose, that's the number 1 rule.

WHERE is the casino, in Nigeria ??

Gambling IS a suckers game with casinos. They have MANY ways to cheat you and what are YOU going to do about it ?

Foxwoods cheated at roulete, craps and I was even short-changed at the window when cashing out.

In roulete, they scoop up winners and say " What bet ?" Even with three independent witnesses claiming the chip WAS on the winning number, NO MONEY was paid.
I was asked by a burly floor man if I wanted to 'step outside' to settle it.
Wasn't my bet, so I didn't.

At craps, I found the man next to me making bets I had NEVER seen before, OR since. After half an hour, I asked if he was a professional. Answer, "YES" . WAS the game crooked ? "YES" !
After I kept track of 1000 rolls of the dice, I analized the results at home. NINES and THREES ( a loser ) came up WAY out of proportion to the correct odds. That's when I realized why he 'placed' the nine on every point.
I also had the dice SEVEN times on another occasion, and threw FOUR for the point SIX out of the seven times, THREE and ONE EVERY time ! I NEVER MADE THE POINT, and 2 and 2 DIDN'T show ! They also scooped up my newly made five dollar bet and demanded I put down $5 if I wanted to shoot. Although the floor manager told them to give back the $5, it took them a HALF HOUR and constant reminders of what she had said.

Of course they NEVER pay the CORRECT odds on ANY bet you WIN. On the 'chuck-a-luck, three dice in a cage that are rotated and droped, I put $5 on THREE. Three THREES came up, and they only paid 10 to 1, when the ODDS of it happening are 256 to 1. All the woman running the game would say was she didn't know anything about 'the odds'.

its 216 to 1 (6*6*6 three dice). The casinos would not get any profits if the "luck" wasn't skewed for them. They cheat for big bets, and steal less from small(which is more common).Plus they can employ "random man from the street" as Guaranteed Winner(who takes alot of money, seemingly away from the casino),to level off any suspicion. Not to mention most of them related to Organized crime groups, which protect them and likely take care of extra lucky people.
