It is made up of soft tailings. It would cut away in minutes, or less, if there is failure. I've witnessed this up close. Water is extremely powerful...it takes no prisoners.
 Quoting: LJM77

They ran water down that damaged spillway for many days and it only cut a small (relative to the whole size) chunk out of that hill/mountainside. It's not just made of soft tailings. There's a lot of rock in there.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73421978

That flow down the MS is NOTHING compared to the power of an uncontrolled release.

Dam failures are known to carve EVERYTHING down to the bare foundation. Nothing but a flat, polished slab at the bottom.
 Quoting: -Adam-

Your post had me seeing visions of the destructive water of Japan's tsunami. Devastation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24518639

and, there's a 800 foot wall of water behind this Dam too.

No high plumes anymore..
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69623682

yes. it's interesting that a reduction of only 2000 CFS
would stop the Plume from forming.

If they put anything down, I would think it would be a material that has great resistance to lateral shearing.

Epoxy?

Wow. The jokes about duct tape and spit might be getting less funny if they are actually spraying glue below the ES...

All I know is that I saw two trucks spraying what looked like a clear liquid that looked like water over a wide surface. I haven't seen it happen before so I asked the question.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24518639

They may be spraying water on fresh concrete to prevent it from drying too quickly. it definitely looks like water.
 Quoting: Crunch62

It may be that they're laying down grass seed. Take a look at the image the DWR has on their website, third or fourth one:

I hadn't checked their website yet today. That makes sense. All I know is that they worked in the ES area back behind the weir all night. That backhoes/excavators were being using some of the time. So, 'they' must think that the ES is going to be a water path again.

Just look at the latest aerial videos, they dug a new channel over from the far side of the parking lot straight to the river.
Very easy to see.

What I remember from that video looked like a road to one of the big piles they dumped at.

It only went up the hill half way.

Not even close to the parking area.

Yer being goofy.

I remote viewed, but I didn't have a specific date, just a specific event at a specific time of day and I'm still anticipating it though I had to step away from the topic at full throttle because it was just...frustrating. When you see something that is going to happen but you can't tell when and even if you know you can't do a thing about it. I am not the same remote viewer as the one you spoke of though.
 Quoting: CRose8

Would it be possible to do a RV where your seeing the "event" and go to a place like a bank that has date/time on their sign?

How could it possible be for the better? We know water is running down the MS, hitting the chasm and should be producing spray.

They could have possibly found an ideal outflow rate that minimizes the harmonics and erosion.

well, the physics of the spray and plumes on the MS
is the same as what causes Cataracts in Rivers.

the first requirement for the formation of cataracts is
high velocity water:

and yesterday they began reducing the CFS from 50,000 to
47,000 CFS,
and so, it would appear that just lowering the Energy Mix
just 2 or 3,000 CFS was enough to cause the
cessation of Plume Formation.
(the spray is still plentiful of course.)

in any event, they are currently in the process of lowering
