Has anybody else noticed that the dam cam does not show each view for the same amount of time...
Spray = ~25sec
Overview = ~33sec
Aux Spillway = ~42sec

With the Spray view being the most interesting at this time, why is the allotted time the shortest?

I'm thinking we get inflows north of 50,000cfs and rising elevations by this time tomorrow.

2PM;

Elevation: 851.72
Outflows: 46,581
Inflows: 29,442
River Rel.: 47,604
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69623682

well, with the larger and larger inflows, a MS outflow of 46,000 CFS
isn't going to be near enough to keep the Lake from
filling-up to 901+ feet, and staying that way for a longggg time.

Not yet, my friend. But they may have to if wee see spray closer and closer to that tower!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69623682

Pretty crazy how the spray disappeared. I wonder if another chunk of the MS broke off??
 Quoting: LJM77

Most likely. that thing has been eroding for a while already. The original hole was tiny.

Luckily the bottom of the spillway doesn't matter any more. It's the upper portion we have to keep an eye on.

I'm only paying attention to it in regards to how it affects water flow down below. So, @ 2-3 more days of MS use and then cleanup and examining the MS again. I'll be curious to see what the bottom of the MS looks like with all the cement they poured under it and bolting they did.

The water is not reaching the lower spillway. The flow is going through a channel towards the dam and bypassing the lower spillway completely.

What if they rebuilt the lower portion of the spillway into a whitewater park / kayak course? Of course, it would need to be able to flow 150K CFS, which would make for some intense whitewater moments.

The City of Oroville already has a concept for such a venue in the General Plan (although at a much lower flow rate).

Nevermind, that was WORSE than this thread...

NOTHING is going to happen with this dam. Except they will hold on, until summer and they can begin to fully repair it.
This is the end of this threads story.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73740180

I hope you are correct. The only real variable is the weather. We are already about 10" above average precipitation for the season (measured at the dam) with more in the forecast. Nearly double the average snowpack in the watershed feeding the reservoir.

If the precipitation over the next two weeks doesn't cause a catastrophe, we may be able to ride it out until repairs can be affected over the summer.
 Quoting: Crunch62

Even when the rain snow stops better hope tenperatures don't heat up fast and stay hot for a long period of time causing a rapid snow melt. If the dam makes it through the next couple weeks of rain and it dries out and temperatures don't heat up too fast and the snow melts slowly then the dam might make it. If the snow melts fast then the dam is likely doomed. Of course whether the dam breaks or not likely depends on if the government more important the illuminati wants it ti break. If they really want the dam to break youxcan bet they'll do everything in their power to make sure it does even including blowing up tge dam themselves like they did to the levees in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina if it looks like the rain and snowmelt might not be enough to break it. If anybody lives near the dam if you gear explosions make sure to record it so we can catch them and expose them deliberately trying to break the dam If you do hear explosions make sure to get away and out of anywhere the dam could flood immediately.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4236603

Got it! Record deliberate explosion (at any unknown hour)then post immediately on GLP- then RUN FOR MY LIFE!shark

Watching the dam cam, I see something I think is different. Although the plumes/spray of water from the MS are much smaller than when they recently re-opened the MS, the water spray is now at the tower-and sometimes a bit to the right of the tower. Before, the plumes and spray were to the left of the tower, further down the spillway.

well, if they are lowering the CFS outflow in the face of all of
this, then it's obvious they have no intention of
going back up to 50,000 CFS (how much less CFS will they go?)
does this mean the MS has sustained more serious damage, already? necessitating the lower stress-level)

all of which means that very soon the Lake will turn
around and start filling up again. and the MS not being
able to handle the volume of inflow, the Lake will
rise to 901+ feet,
and then DWR will be frantically using the MS and ES both,
to try to keep the Dam above water.
