I was reading yesterday how most Geiger counters are relatively useless for testing food. The main reason is that with food your main threat isn't the beta or gamma particles, but is alpha particle which most standard Geiger counters do NOT detect.

It's still better to have a Geiger counter than not, but it's like seeing only half the picture.

So what is Japan's strategy? Could they be intentionally moving as slowly and passively as possible hoping to prompt the international community to forcibly come and commandeer this situation. That way they can pass on the cleanup cost to someone else. Or is it their crazy sense of honor and pride.

This reminds me how in WW II how many of their civilians preferred to suicide off the cliffs rather than accept help from the allies. In this case, they're suiciding the whole world with them.

By mistake, I bought a seismometer instead of a Geiger counter.

I panicked when jumping up and down in excitement, during the first reading, and deduced that we had very high radiation!

How much you guys want to bet nothing will happen? Im willing to lay 10 gs
