It caused havoc in my own relationshit, now my BF drinks light beer and wine occasionally and it's improved his personality and our relationship dramatically. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73170717 Thank you for sharing your experience. We've worked for nearly 5 years on this issue and have tried everything in the book. It's never been more than 2 weeks until she's back at it again. She won't even admit there is a problem at all. Even after several alcohol related arrests in the course of 2 years. I always try to be a good person, but there's only so much one can do to help another who won't admit there is a problem to solve. |

I'm sorry, it's probably better to just move on if you've tried for that long. It won't get better over time, it will become more of a problem. If you've been together that long, maybe arrange an intervention for her and give her the option of rehab or you leaving and if she say's no you should leave her be. Not an easy thing to do. |

Thank you for your advice. I think it's worth trying ... have to think about who to invite though. Her parents, aunts, uncles and siblings are all either drunks or druggies. Thanks again, it really means something to me to just talk with someone about it for a minute. |

This isn't roleplaying, I just didn't have anywhere else to talk about this... So what is the gender of the drunk? Female misogynistic pig. IM TRIGGERED! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74113840 Australia 02/19/2017 04:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | She's been drinking to excess since the day we met. Never could get a handle on it. Tonight I find her cozying up with a bottle of Jack on the couch for no reason. I asked her to put it away for the night and she smashed my laptop instead. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72708356 Good riddance. Thank god for money, hookers and blow. Best way to help an alcoholic if they refuse to stop, is to leave them. A bit late, but good job! Take time to heal and move on. |

I arranged an intervention for a loved one once for someone in need and it was all set until one of the alcoholic relatives called and told the person beforehand. It was a disaster and the intervention never happened. I was the bad guy/gal for trying to help. I guess the moral of the story is be careful who you invite. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73170717 United Kingdom 02/19/2017 04:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Honestly arranging an intervention with the option of rehab gives you the chance to leave without feeling guilty. It basically ensures that you are giving that person the option to heal and get sober and doing everything you can to offer them that, while relieving you of that burden so you can walk away without regrets and remorse. |

Drunks love to get a ride to their ex's house even when theirs is closer. Own the mentality "not my f'n problem" and block this out of your thoughts. No remorse and no guilt. Remember, you are really doing them a favor because to continue to be around and let them ruin what little you feel for them is actually unfair to them. |

And, as you've most likely already discovered, you can't reason with an alcoholic either. Best to leave her be. She might want help at some point, but I wouldn't count on it. She hasn't hit bottom yet. |
