RV vs apartment in southern California, which is cheaper to live in?
I was thinking about moving to southern California. The rent for an single room apartment near the beach is $1300 a month. A RV cost maybe $300 a month for the loan and $700 a month for a RV lot spot. Which is better?

Your estimates are way too low.
You can't take it with you - anyway.

Well...don't know about LA....but your numbers are too low for San Diego.

Too low for L.A. too, unless OP doesn't mind living in the ghetto.

There may be places "near the beach" but that doesn't mean they're nice, or safe.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too - a studio in Long Beach. I used to work in one of those high-rises on Ocean Blvd. It's okay down there, but just a few blocks up and you might as well be in East L.A. Gangs galore.

You better do some research OP. You could end up in a place you really don't want to be.

1300 near the beach? You need to add a few thousand to that.

Re: RV vs apartment in southern California, which is cheaper to live in?
I full timed in a RV for five years in a 30' class A motorhome. The beauty of an RV is if you don't like where you are at you turn the key and leave, and wherever you go you have all of your shit with you
For $300 a month payment you can get a really nice motorhome, if you have a truck you could buy a trailer, which gives you more options.
If you search "work camper" there are tons of jobs where you can work to earn your lot rent, some come with a small salary too. My brother and wife are currently doing this and love it

I am in the process of buying a truck and camper, plus a travel trailer. the camper will be a daily driver set up for off road use.

Can't believe you are renting anything, anywhere in California for less than 2000 per month. Probably higher than that.

In 1987 I was paying 1000 per month for an apartment in silver spring maryland. No way California, beach front for 1300 in 2016.

Maybe a cardboard box on a sewer vent but not an apartment

a lot of people live rent-free in RVs on the streets of L.A., for example around Silver Lake

You still have to be careful though. A few cities are still friendly about this, but most are banning overnight RV parking - especially at beaches.

Some cities will arrest and tow after just one warning.

Be careful OP.
