NASA will hold a news conference TODAY at 1 pm EST to make an announcement on exoplanets...we are not alone!

Researchers say we're enjoying a "Golden Age" of exoplanet discovery. Exoplanets have been making waves over the last 20 years, but the first ones discovered were Jupiter-like gas giants orbiting stars. It wasn't until astronomers realized that rocky Earth-like planets were common in our galaxy that people became excited about the idea that Earth wasn't an entirely unique planet, in terms of mass or temperature.


With money, resources and interest directed toward the discovery and study of exoplanets -- and seeking to answer the question of whether we are alone in the universe -- there has been a fast progression of identifying them.

Around a nearby, cold, small star we found 7 rocky Earth-size planets, all of which could have liquid water - key to life as we know it.

No need to watch ...will go something like " historic discovery " mumble mumble alpha century mumble space debris mumble mumble organism mumble moisture mumble life sustaining probability .....over ....oh can we have 28 billion for next fake news conference ? Mumble mumble thanks .

An earth sized planet orbiting a star 39 light years away. This is big news, why exactly?

Water equals this planet's life. That doesn't mean that water is the only element that life needs. Other planets with different atmospheres may have life that is not water or carbon based. We have no idea what life means outside of earth.
