I never leave my door unlocked. I live in a "safe" neighborhood, but you never know! I still remember, about 15-20 years ago, my front door was locked.

My doorbell rang. I hated to answer the door because it was either some kid selling cookies or gift wrap for school or Jehovah Witnesses.

I sat here and ignored it. Then I heard the door handle going back and forth. Someone was trying to open my door! I froze...I couldn't believe it! Now I NEVER leave it unlocked.

True story last year I had a old bbq grill on our porch that we used to leave spare keys in, well the keys kept winding up in the gravel parking area 8 to 10ft from the grill.
We thought our son was coming home shit faced and losing the keys, but then I opened the old grill up and noticed all the twigs and branches forming a large nest.
I declared war on the birds and threw all the nest out and put the keys back, two days later the keys were back in the gravel and the nest was completely built.

I live in a pretty good neighbor hood but keep all my doors locked, good thing too as one of the neighbor's across the street had a druggie son, his son's druggie friend apparently scammed a dealer so they gave them something to snort that would hurt them on their next buy.

Neighbor's son died when the roof of his mouth rotted out completely from the trick dope but his buddy went nuts and jumped over my 6 ft privacy fence yelling that someone was trying to kill him, he was crazy and pawing at my "locked" back french doors that I refused to open. He jumped into the yard next door that had kids and his back door unlocked, the maniac ran all through his house scaring the kids and stealing his cell phone before rushing out his front door.

You just never know when that simple door lock will deter bad happenings.
