stillhere User ID: 72031485 United States 02/25/2017 10:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Please be careful, OP, I recall the recent post where a loved one died from alcohol withdrawal, and others commenting on how common that was. Serious addicts may require hospitalization to safely get through the beginning. Stay safe, and continue to seek assistance, many have been where you are now, and come out the other side. Prayers for you, you are not alone, we are all broken in some way, and on a path of learning. Stay strong, you have already made a good start to your recovery. Love, from another green eyed lady. Ending up in an orange jumpsuit and a nice pair of braclets slowed me down. I still drink but only a few times a year and have been that way sometime. Many cant handle that i wouldnt advise it. When you finally reach the point you dont crave it and can take it or leave it is when you know youve beat it. Took me awhile. Good luck. |

We are both alcoholics and cannot control the temptation. Probably spent the majority of last week going to bars, drinking, and wasting my tax return, which really hasn't been a waste since I am seeing the negative of partying regularly. In a way it is preparing me for the future, but still, like a dog returns to its vomit... I know I am a fool, but I need help - from the Lord. SoberLife User ID: 70585330 Canada 02/25/2017 11:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Work the 12 step program. Live it, breathe it. Get a sponsor. I know, you're thinking "all that crap is nonsense". But in reality, the thoughts in your mind stemming resistance to treatment is the same mind that got you into this mess. Your thoughts don't work anymore. The way you think keeps you intoxicated. You need to relearn how to think, act, respond, feel. A sponsor is a person that overcame addiction and has found happiness. They will guide you on the same path of recovery they took. Its not easy. THE REAL QUESTION IS - WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO DO TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE? if the answer is anything and everything, you are ready. Take advantage of your desperation while it's here, if you don't, the desperation will be followed by intoxication and you will continue in the loop of destruction. May God bless you to a path of self discovery and recovery. |

truthgurl User ID: 48181464 United States 02/25/2017 12:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I will be 13 years sober this year. Don't give up!!!! It sucks at first because it is so hard. Your disease mindfucks you constantly but like they say...take it literally 60 seconds at a time...make thos 60 anddo another. Before you know it...you will have 13 years! The difference for me was rehab. I did it on my own for 5 months but every day was so close to relapse. Rehab gave me what I needed. I jumped in with both feet and never looked back. Then I got a sponsor...a good sponsor that I worked the steps with. Those steps...they are magical. If I can do this...I KNOW you can do this. and stop talking about your drugs of choice, that only puts the drug/alcohol in your mind. and the disease only needs a second before it has you on the way to relapse. truthgurl |

You will regain a new respect for life and what you have taken for granted in life through your struggle to fix yourself. When done you will be a better person and a light to others around you. Stay strong, and don't take lifes lessons for granted we are all here to learn. This is an opportunity in disguise. Quoting: Dredrum Great and true post! Prayers for OP. ~*Ride the Wave*~ |
truthgurl User ID: 48181464 United States 02/25/2017 12:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I forgot the most important part of my recovery.. God! I go to AA/NA meetings but I also go to Celebrate REcovery, which is faith based and AMAZING!!!! My church also has a little recovery group I belong to as well. My friends laugh at me and tell me I'd go to meetings for everything if they had them lol. They really help me but more important, I just really like going. Find you a good men only group in AA. They are the best groups and really open up to other men in ways they won't in open meetings. Every man I know in early recovery, I take to a certain men's group. truthgurl |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 73598694 United States 02/25/2017 12:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | alright 2 things: 1) You don't need prayers or a higher power to use as a crutch 2) You only need will power. If you are too weak to get over addiction, then you have no will power. Simple as that. Nothing to do with superstitious beliefs... |
kelee877 User ID: 1505249 Canada 02/25/2017 12:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | !0 years here Take it one day at a time You will still have to deal with the ups and downs of life, but you will manage to get through them In my first year of sobriety I lost my oldest son, he committed suicide in my sisters house 500 miles away from me. In my fifth year I won 75 thousand on a scratch ticket, bought a house to finish raising my 3 other children. After a couple of years living there I was worried about my end of life and made the horrid error of transfering the house in to my next sons name. I wanted to move to find a job and wanted to sell the house that son told me to get the Fu-- out of his house...his little sister to kicked her to the curb... If you are wondering why i am telling you this instead of pray as you seek. SOBER..Son of a Bitch everything is REAL....REAL life will still happen you just need to get a tool belt and when life deals you blow after blow, pull out your tools and move forward...one day at a time In loving memory of my son Chris April 12 1985-June 19 2007 |
