My name is Samson Racioppi, and I am going to tell you in two minutes why all drugs including heroin, meth, and cocaine, should be legalized. Our current system creates a stigma that discourages addicts from seeking help. Legalization encourages innovative ideas and alternative methods for dealing with the drug issue and shifts focus away from the criminal justice system into more of what it truly is: a health epidemic. If we just changed our mindset (and our laws) community clinics could open where people suffering from addiction can find cheap access to pharmaceutical grade drugs with guaranteed potency in a safe environment. This immediately reduces overdose deaths. Plus, in these clinics, I envision access to life-saving measures, for example narcan, further reducing over-dose deaths. As these drugs would be supplied legally, pharmaceutical companies who have access to greater resources like labs and legitimate supply lines, it would likely drive down the costs significantly. Cartels would be unable to compete with the pharmaceutical companies, which would have a significant impact in places where the drug war is fought militarily, like Latin America. As long as there is demand for something, there will be someone willing to supply it. Our current failed policy focuses on supply, doing little to curb demand. At these clinics, when addicts are ready to come clean off the drugs, counselors and other resources could be available to assist. All this under one roof, in clinics located where people are being affected the hardest. We barely scratched the surface. Reducing burden on police, courts, and jails. Allowing non-violent drug offenders the ability to get student loans. Etc. Etc. My name is Samson Racioppi, and I just told you in two minutes why all drugs should be legalized. Just posted this on facebook and someone just jumped all over my shit for it, saying I'm advocating for the pharmaceutical industry to pump more drugs into our economy. Not at all. I hate the way we over-prescribe drugs in our country, but in this one case they really could be a positive thing. Sucks people are so close-minded. They'll never want to go with your plan because it disrupts their power and money gains. Good luck though. Treating people and working toward lowering demand would be best for society. (Just not best for their business.) Cheers. The big shots tried to hold it back; Fools tried to wish it away The hopeful depend on a world without end; Whatever the hopeless may say |

It criminalizes natural human behavior that does least harm to others. Prostitution is the same, and in our country we don't even have the concept of a "professional girlfriend", which is a paid life companion, not to be confused with traditional gf or wife. The other MAIN reason for free access to all drugs legally: We are deprived of the ability to learn about them, and even medical research is prohibitive in cost and time. Having legal access to all drugs without a physician's script will let people choose effective cures/treatments for their own ailments. Only an individual can sense effects from the inside, and that applies especially to anything "mind-altering". A perfect example is the treatment of aspergers/autism/ASD using the entheogens, using MDMA and similar compounds. Some compounds are safer than others, and those are not available due to legal restrictions. No drug of this class is available legally even with a prescription. Good luck packaging all this into two minutes of coherent sound bites. |
