Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 72848178 Canada 03/03/2017 11:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I remember I sent them a request email to join a year or so ago and they said I had to read like 7 or 8 books then email them back. Obviously it was a bunch of Crowley books. I have since then changed my mind. Quoting: Bub Isn't the point of organizations like O.T.O. to learn once you're in them? And to be taught? And not just book lists... If that's true then it sounds just like university which I switched from to college for that exact reason. Well thanks for the comment... probably the only useful one, I'll check it out myself, but if that's true then that makes me lose some of my interest. Also to Me3: I have no idea what you mean or are trying to say... |

Aleister Crowley wrote The Gnostic Mass — technically called Liber XV or "Book 15" — in 1913 while travelling in Moscow, Russia. The structure is similar to the Mass of the Eastern Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church, communicating the principles of Crowley's Thelema. It is the central rite of Ordo Templi Orientis and its ecclesiastical arm, Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica. The ceremony calls for five officers: a Priest, a Priestess, a Deacon, and two acolytes UNQUOTE... NO!! Women are to be silent and not be priests nor elders npr deacons 1 tim 2:9-15 9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. Galatians 1:8-9King James Version (KJV) 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. |

I just have no idea where to find any good esoteric knowledge in the world. So much confusion that I figured O.T.O. had some of the answers. It's just that I can't stand laws so do what thou wilt is attractive, but I guess there's a better answer somewhere. I'm big on free will, so I don't like conventional religion, but the other side of the coin kind of sucks as well. I wish there was some real gnostic sects around still, my gut says A.C. corrupted gnosticism but I thought O.T.O. might still be worth a shot just for an experience. And I know the Mandaeans still exist, but they have to many rules about purity and such that it's just too much for me so I don't even bother reading their texts anymore. Since Thelema is just an extension of shaivism, maybe I should check out the opposite side and look into vaishnavism or something... |

If you're after esoteric knowledge, which is totally understandable, you should search for rare books on the subject and read them. I've heard that in California the Rosicrucian order is very prevalent and has operating lodges. Likewise, Freemasonry might be a good place to start. Granted, I doubt you'd get very much enlightenment from the blue lodge but both Scottish and York rites have something to offer. Several freemasonic affiliate orders like OES might also be a good starting point. With all this being said, don't think that these esoteric arenas are free from pontification and conjecture. There is no pure truth and only interpretation. These interpretations will vary from order to order and rite to rite. Additionally, oftentimes, false interpretations will be given to initiates and it will take long periods of time to gain the trust to merit legitimate information. That's why I said to research it yourself. If you read and study, I'm sure you can gather all the information you desire. GLP is an INSTITUTION |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 66197448 Philippines 03/04/2017 02:18 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You sound like you would like the 11th degree done on you by 5 guys. KNow what that is? Yeah, stupid people who talk about OTO usually don't. :youreafag: Anyone here part of the O.T.O.? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72848178 I kind of want to join, but I'm not sure. I love reading about spirituality and the more esoteric side of religions like kabbalah, Gnosticism and such although I'll admit my understanding is very limited and I find it hard to find good information. I just feel like I need a bit of guidance like not someone to hold my hand, but just someone to open the door so I can further expand my awareness and knowledge and I wanted to know what the O.T.O. could offer me. I'm also worried about what friends and family would think if they found out I joined because I know they'll just classify it as a cult and say I should up the dose on my meds and that I'm delusional for joining a sex cult. I guess it kind of is and I'm aware there is some sexual practices but I definitely don't see the organization in the negative sense of the term "cult" like they would. I haven't read much yet about Alesteir Crowley, but I found the book of law very interesting and noticed some Shaivist tones in it and Shaivism also interests me a lot. Also I'm worried it will be too much about sex, which I don't have often although I'm not against it in any way. I currently don't have a partner to have sex with, so I'm just not sure if I'll miss out on a lot of what the O.T.O. is all about. I don' expect anyone to tell me to join or not to join, but I was wondering if anyone in it could give some information that may calm my worries or even just share whatever you're willing to about what I can expect if I were to join. There's a lodge relatively near me, so I'll probably contact someone to attend a public event sometime soon, but just wanted a bit of information before I actually go to to see what it's like in person. |
