The bones were found in plastic bags Saturday afternoon in Ratlam, a town in central Madhya Pradesh state. The police said that the remains could be from five or six babies or fetuses. The police chief of the area, S.K. Saxena, reached by telephone, said that the authorities did not know the identities of the dead or why the remains had been left behind Mission Hospital, which is run by Christian missionaries.
