Trumps gonna ring up a bigger vacation bill on the taxpayer dime in his first year than Obama did in 8 years, and there is no denying that fact.

It's roughly $15mil+ in 9 weeks. So his run rate is >$87mil per year which is more than Obama's in 8 years.

If he wasn't such a buffoonish clown, maybe he would have the competence to insure a secure environment in the White House.

Trump’s golf trip to Mar-a-lago this weekend cost $3,000,000 of taxpayer funds. That would be about the cost of meals for 419,000 seniors as with Meals on Wheels. Doesn’t that sound better? Of course, that’s not counting the 8,300 meals a day local police spend on overtime when he’s around. Absolutely worth it.

Wonder how long it will be before Melania says "Let them eat cake"?

But since all presidential vacations are always working vacations, taxpayers cover what it takes to keep the commander in chief working. Lodging and meals are an extra cost, but taxpayers pay the salaries of White House staffers and Secret Service agents whether the president stays in Washington or not, so a presidential vacation does not significantly increase personnel costs.

The biggest additional expense is the use of Air Force One and the support aircraft needed to haul all the equipment and ground transportation the president needs. The Congressional Research Service estimated that the cost of operating Air Force One is nearly $180,000 per hour. Ultimately, a presidential vacation can cost taxpayers an additional $1 million/day or considerably more than if the president had just stayed put in the White House.

Does Trump's entourage stay at a Trump hotel on these golf outings?

The President does not pay any costs for AF1, not even when they use it for vacations. That was a rightfully a big criticism of Obama. But now Trump is using AF1 almost every weekend for a vacation.

The President is only required to pay lodging costs for he and his family.

Government pays for all secret service and administrative costs, as well as for advisors who accompany.
