Dreaming of the Dead, learned something new. . .
The Living and the Dead - March 19, 2017

I've always thought of "ghosts" as humans that have died and are (for some reason) unaware they are dead, or have unfinished business, and so are not resting. I assumed there are a few here and there, but that most dead people "rest" somewhere - the ground?

In this (lucid) dream, I saw dead human beings walking around among us, unseen. There were so many, I was shocked. They looked like humans, and were even wearing clothing. They were transparent, and mostly followed the laws of gravity, although it clearly had no effect on them.

I saw them gather in gangs, or zombie-like groups, around events that attracted them. The Dead seemed to still have a lust or craving to experience life.

I saw a group of Dead gather around a wealthy older couple who had paid for a sex-show, while enjoying fine clothing, food, etc. . . and saw that the Dead were trying to enjoy the experience through the lusts of the Living. Then I realized that all the Dead in this situation looked similar to the Living Couple - like relatives or friends and ascociates - also wealthy and powerful during life. They had the same lusts. . .

I saw a Living teenage girl who was in a vulnerable situation, having already experienced abuse, huddled in her room, afraid and alone. I saw a group of the Dead, outside in the street, appear to sense her fear - as though it were a scent or a sound. They followed the "scent" to her room, and found her.

I realized that this particular group of Dead had been people that enjoyed violence and rape during their lives They now roamed around looking for real-life situations to watch and enjoy. The girl's fear had drawn them. They gathered around her, enjoying her fear and miming (fruitlessly) about what they wanted to do to her. She could not see them, but her fear intensified, as though she was affected by their willful malice.

I saw some of them find a Living abuser somewhere nearby and gather around him, talking (soundlessly) obviously trying to get him to go to where the girl was hiding. He seemed unaware of them, but after awhile, it appeared that they did affect his thoughts, and that he (thinking it was his own idea) did get up and go find the girl.

There were others - both Living and Dead who had various vices and lusts. Many were pretty harmless, but still had some vice like worry, greed, or control. . . Many stayed near Living family members as though in an attempt to continue to influence them in life.

I also saw a few Living people who had no Dead around them. I followed them and watched them, trying to figure out why the Dead did not seem to see them or "smell" them. They had a commonality I wanted to identify. At first I thought it was fearlessness or goodness - no vices. . . but it seemed more like a focus. I awoke, still trying to figure out what it was.

It sounds like a creepy, disturbing dream, and I guess it was - but I was not afraid. I wished I could take the teenage girl with me and keep her safe, and so many others. . .

I awoke and prayed about it and had some thoughts that I'll post later.

Thoughts:

After waking up, praying, and thinking. . . I realized a few things:

All of "the Dead" were restless, and had some sort of vice. There were none among them that I would call "at peace" even during life. They all had some kind of fretful greed or pursuit.

The Living seemed to give off "scents" or "sounds" that attracted the Dead that had the same interests or vices as the Living.

There was a small group of people the Dead did not gather around - these people gave off a different "scent" or perhaps none at all. In the dream, this unique group of people seemed focused on something outside of themselves. They also visually appeared "beautiful" to me, although upon close analysis, the beauty was also in their focus. Self-control, love, self-discipline, soberness, joy, productivity, generosity, courage. . . all of these things came to mind as I searched for a commonality.

A guy wrote a book, called "Hungry Ghosts", I think.

He was a journalist, and a firm skeptic, who investigated the paranormal phenomenon.

He concluded that ghosts were real but that they weren't the dead.

They were more like demons who could observe so many things and imitate dead people, displaying knowledge that would convince living people who sought them that they were dead relatives.

As in your dream, they are spirits who love sin and enjoy watching the show when they can convince people to sin.

They mislead people and isolate them from the living, all the better to use them.

He said there were many accounts of people believing the flattery and attention of these spirits and cutting off all relations even with their own spouses.

It seems probable to me.

God would not have warned us against talking to the dead if they weren't real - in some sense.

This is my understanding of a letter written to the Hebrew followers of Christ:

So now, seeing that we are surrounded with a multitude of Dead witnesses, we should get rid of everything that weighs us down, and any vice that keeps us from running a perfect race.

Look at Jesus Christ, who is the Creator and perfector of that which we believe. He also ran this race, knowing the joy that would follow his death on the cross. Although he despised the shame of that death, now he is sitting (alive) on the right hand of the throne of God.

Remember him who endured so much hatred and war against himself, so you won't be weary and give up in your mind.

Re: Dreaming of the Dead, learned something new. . .
My great niece was reported by relatives to talk to the spirits of the dead all the time.

Whenever I asked her about it, she denied it.

Although I could sense that she was being evasive.

Later, when I spoke to another family member about it, he said the ghosts told her that there were some people that she was not to speak of them to, and I was the top of the list.

Yes, interesting. . .

So, I was thinking: disembodied Angels are "evil spirits" according to Christ. So, it would follow that disembodied humans are also "spirits" - and that they also could be good or evil. . . yes?

The difference between evil angels and humans would be not change if they were dead - they would simply not have bodies.

So it could be that "talking with the dead" is exactly that. And that the Dead can also be "evil spirits." If they were evil in life.

Sometimes they might just be a fussy, worrisome old aunt that just won't shut up and mind her own business - many "hauntings" sound like this.

Also, it appears that evil people consort with evil spirits. It is likely you would find them together.

Anyway. . . I guess my question is, So What? What is the point of this - how is this useful to us?

I think therein you've found your answer, especially what I have underlined.

As well, that realm of beings that you saw is exactly that, a realm of this reality. It's one of many.

There is far more "out there," and I hope you go beyond to see...well, after you digest this. It's a bit much to chew, but you seem to be doing well and fine.

The dead have nothing to tell but their agony.

Rather dream of the living and LIVE.

For they that descend into darkness do so without a light and without a way to get out.

Some people may equate worry with active carefulness or active watchfulness. . .

I am using "worry" as a perspective of pointless fear or doubt:

If there is an issue you can't change no matter what you do, and you spend time and energy worrying, then that is a vice:

"I'm worried about whether or not my husband is going to make enough money at that new job."
(can't do anything about this - why worry?)

If there is an issue you can change and don't - but just worry about it, then that is also a vice:

"I'm worried about my kid being safe at school." (so homeschool him already!)

I have family members that love, enjoy, delight, thrill. . .in being worried all the time about everything!

The difference between a vice and a sin, in my mind, is that a vice is like an addictive sin that you justify in your own mind and do over and over.

This is why it is so important for humans to forgive and not consume themselves with thoughts of revenge. You attract that kind of negative energy around you.

I'm not saying it is easy.

Interesting. Maybe while sleeping we can leave our bodies and roam the streets and houses and interact with the dead spirits or other dreamers. Probably mostly other dreamers if they aren't bad dreams or bad people in them.

Very interesting dream and thread. Thanks for sharing. I think there's a lot of truth to this.

So there were no positive ghosties? No loving relatives watching over the young and vulnerable?

Maybe (hopefully) there is another layer or plane you will see with good ancestors or angels.

It kind of reminds me of the concept of archons in Gnosticism and thetans in Scientology.

Thank you, everyone, for the comments.

A.C., no, there were no "good ghosts". Even in the dream, I had the impression that the "Good" Living were resting. Perhaps they are still aware of what we are doing though (dreaming?) - the book written to the Hebrew followers of Christ seems to indicate this is the case:

In chapter 11 it tells a story of good people that died, and then in 12 it tells the Living that those Dead are a "great cloud of witnesses" to our lives. But they are resting - not meddling:

Perhaps the saying "rest in peace" is from some ancient, but real, understanding of the possibility of NOT resting. The Bible calls it "sleeping."

1Thessalonians 4

I don't want you to be ignorant, my fellow Hebrews, concerning those which are asleep. Why should you grieve, as those who have no hope?

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, you should know those who sleep in Jesus (a relationship even in death) will God bring with him, alive, when he returns.

For Jesus Christ told us, we which are alive and remain so until he returns will not go before them which are asleep.

For Jesus Christ himself will descend from the heavens with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God sounding: and the dead who believed in Christ will rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Jesus in the air: to remain with him always.

Because of this, comfort each other with these words.
