Well, if the animal is not handled correctly, given proper food and lodging, exercise, training (aka: socialization), you will have a MESS on your hands, and the animal will end up being given up (willingly or unwillingly) or euthanized for "bad" behavior (iow: "acting like a wolf" when you thought it was going to act like a dog).

Wolves act like wolves. Dogs act like dogs.

You would think they act the same, but they do not. Surprisingly, your wolf would be the loser in an altercation with a dog. Here's why:

Dogs fight to kill, wolves fight to establish dominance. They know to stop fighting once the beta animal concedes. They have to! In the wild, they cannot afford to have one of their own injured and unable to help hunt to feed the pack. Only one can be alpha, so once that hierarchy is established, each animal maintains their "status." Unless at some time, one beta male wants to try the old alpha male. THey go at it. If the old alpha can maintain his status, the beta will go back to his place. If he can "best" the old alpha, HE will take his place, and the old alpha will actually give it up!

But dogs don't know such hierarchy "rules" So they keep fighting until one is dead (or too injured to continue). So even if your wolf were to say, "Okay, I give. You're the alpha...." the dog would NOT stop biting and fighting your animal, and you will end up with an injured animal....which brings you to an animal hospital, etc. Which brings attention to your ILLEGAL WOLF, which leads to confiscation, which leads authorities to RID THE WORLD OF THE DANGEROUS WOLF, and it is euthanized.

Case closed.
