Keep getting constant strains and pulled muscles from lifting weights?
Been lifting for over 5 years and only in the last year or two i have noticed a tremendous amount of strain around my shoulder and neck area especially after training shoulders. I get pulled muscles in my chest area a lot too. And in the upper back/shoulder blade area sometimes too.

Every time i get bigger in the gym and put on more mass i get more strains and pulls. I take a week off every now and then and i still get strains and pulls even when i'm resting.

Shoulders and neck is the worst. Constant tightness and strains.

Anything to help?

1. As you get older you need longer to recover. Lift twice a week.

2. CoEnzyme Q10 is needed as you get older as your body doesn't produce much anymore.

3. Sorry but as you get older you turn to glass. You have to go lighter.

Every time I have injured myself it has been from lifting weights. Shit is dangerous and not even good for you. Its all about strength to bodyweight. Thats what you really want. That is what will really benefit you by providing far more freedom of movement, athletic ability and health. Calisthenics, plyometrics etc. Body weight exercises, natural movements, push ups, chin ups, pull ups, yoga, tree climbing, swimming, biking, jogging.

Dont be a poser by doing linear restricted isolated movements with weights for useless beach muscle. You will continue to injure yourself and have nothing but show muscle. You wont have health, your strength to body ratio will be shit, your cardio will be shit.

If in shoulders youre not doing rear delt flys or equivalent to build up the backside of your shoulder and the front delt is pulling your shoulder out of alignment.

It's the way you lift, do more reps and lighter weight. Your doing a lot of weight and fewer reps. Bulky isn't better. You want long lean muscle it has more power than bulky muscle. Think of it like a rubber band. There is more energy in a long thin band than a short thick band. People who lift weights aren't known for their smarts

Ya. Build a better athlete is a good book but just get his philosophy & u won't have to read it.

Plus many many other teachers & learning about advanced nutrition is good to.

Bodybuilders look uncomfortable most of the time.

Vegans are retarded. Unless just for short term like a few months every few yrs maybe.

Do you warm up with some lightweights or some cardio? Do U drink 64ozs of pure water per day? What are Ur training cycles do you do the same sets, reps, weight pct of max? U have to train muscle flexiblity along with bulking up.

This is very important. You must strengthen every muscle's antagonist equally. If you have a strong chest, you better have a strong back as well. Make sure you warm up the muscle and stretch before AND after training. Also, use good form...Try not to cheat. If you have to cheat, the weight is too heavy and may cause injury.

A few things I have done over the years to help as I get older:

TENS\EMS unit
Foam roller
Floss band

Supplements:

Fish oil
Take a joint formula
Anything for inflammation like Turmeric
Protein - gram's equal to your body weight

Increase the amount the weight you've been lifting. Also increase the number of reps.

It is imperative that you lift EVERY day no matter how badly you feel.

Water
Potassium
NSAIDS - The swelling will cause tons of damage if you don't keep it under control.

Make sure you don't have high blood pressure. If you do, you have to get that under control or you will strain out on every session and it will literally wreck everything in your body permanently.

Just smoke Pot with 2 to 1 CBD to THC ratio

Help relaxes the muscles and stone effect is "almost nonexistent"
So if You dont need afraid some pot test in work is cheap way...if You grow it alone in home.

GLP is the best place for health advise! Yes, you have to research all suggestions and advice but you will also learn of things you might never know by asking a doctor or using normal medical/health sites.

This. Everything stated is solid advice.

Still lift, but work in other techniques as well.
Warm ups and stretching are important and often overlooked. Stretching elongates the muscles, working them differently...General stretching and yoga type movements are not just for chicks.

Body weight exercises like push ups, pull ups and dips, pretty much exclusively, can give you a crazy upper body...lunges, step ups and squat jumps, etc. can do the same for your lower.

A traditional gym can and does help in getting a great physique, but is definetly not required.

A good chiropractor and regular massages will assist you as well (if you don't already use)

Personally, I've sold commercial equipment, been a PT/strength coach, competitive powerlifter, and owned a gym....my good friends still do, and although all of their equipment is top of the line and brand new, roughly 50% of their facility is dedicated to non-traditional (machines/free weights) activity; stretching/yoga, plyometrics, climbing, and other control, explosive and calisthenic type manuvers.

In closing, at least consider working in some light lifting days focusing more on control and form (again, if you don't already), stay well hydrated and keep your nutrition in check.

Hope things improve for you!

Dude, you need to be doing a lot of stretching and a whole lot more yoga.

Also, up the water intake by at least twice what you take now. Add more protein to the body. After your workout, forget the norm of running and grabbing protein, havve the dreaded Carbs, your body cannot recover if you do not have them as you are using all your energy. Replace it for god sake.
