I'm not familiar with vox but the USA is eventually going to be forced to roll in there. The Houthis are more than Saudi Arabia can handle and Saudi Arabia is the US empire's petrodollar lynchpin, so it will eventually have to happen. I am surprised the USA has let this go on this long, they may be making Saudi Arabia sweat to teach them a lesson for being disobedient.

Of course if the USA was a decent industrious country that didn't rely on holding a gun to everybody's head to borrow money this would not be necessary.

Egyptian experts predict that Egypt would intervene in the Yemen conflict to prevent the Houthis from gaining control of the strait of Bab al-Mandeb on the Red Sea. There is a link but I am not posting it.

I just recently read that the islands off the coast of Yemen are strategically important for the reasons you stated above. The U.S. doesn't want Iran to gain control of the strait.
