Office Pets...
Yeah, office pets.

You know, a cat or a dog that hangs out at the office and earns their keep via pest control of the warehouse (if you are a cat) or by providing security (if you are a dog).

Anyone work at a place with one or more ?

Trying to convince the Big Guy (my own personal Arthur Carlson aka my boss aka the owner of the company where I work) to allow an office/warehouse cat or dog at our new building once it is built.

I have fed several strays outside and in the winter I let them sleep inside but sadly, most of them disappear after a while and quite frankly, it gets depressing.

I think having a company pet improves employee relations, puts everyone in a better mood, increases productivity, and raises the overall vibration.

Yes ?

After looking at a screen all day and putting in 16 hours a day x 6 days a week puts one in a rut eventually - even me.

Hell, for the past year it takes me 16 hours to get as much work done that I used to get done in 8.

This'll work unless if one or more of your coworkers are into animal cruelty. If that's the case then you'll eventually find said cat and/or dog skinned, hanged, and beaten, raped, but not in any particular order. That's the seriously messed up society we live in today, OP. Otherwise, you're right that such an animal will help improve social things quite a bit.

No, no - not where I work.

The only issue would be people allergic to a cat.

Besides, everyone around here at the office know my love for animals and how defensive I am of them.

Add to it that I walk around the office packing a (concealed) 38 caliber Walther and I don't think we'll have an issue.

Most everyone here is married with a family and has a cat or a dog anyway but living here at the office 24/7 ?

Not sure how they would take that but since it would be with my almost all of the time anyway I don't see much of an issue...

We had all sorts of "pets" here at the Sawmill. We are on 192 acres with 4 ponds and got lots of wild life...

We had a good number of cats that would keep the rats and mice in check, which in turn kept the snakes from entering the mill too much....

We had Gators in the ponds that would keep the Cats in check and that worked pretty good also...

Then we had an new owner a few years back that hired 3 "Mexicans" and put them up in a camper in front the mill...

Well those guys killed the big gator, shot all the cats and ate them and brought a couple of dogs that would tear up the trash and crap was everywhere...

Was like a eco system cluster....

Thank God the owner sold the mill and we sent the illegals packing!!!!

Jesus! That is terrible. Who could do something like that to a cat or a dog ?

Hell, we had a little house mouse in the office a while back and when everyone else wanted to put out a poison trap I insisted on a small humane trap so I could put him back outside.

Which we did.

And then he came back.

And then we (Really just me) discovered a slob was leaving food out in the kitchen and not cleaning up after themselves and not shutting their door at night.

I got him trapped yet again and put him back out in the woods and hadn't seen him since. (The mouse, not the employee. He got fired instead, lol...)

Got a snake out a while back too using a dustpan when everyone else wanted to take a machete to him (Really ? A machete ? WTF!? LOL!)

Fools and the dead don't change their minds. Fools won't and the dead can't.

When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar. You are only telling the world that you fear what he might say. Quoting: CountryWise

Re: Office Pets...
I think it's an AWESOME idea...especially if the new critter is a rescue.

I would prefer it to be a homeless stray to be honest but a rescue works just as well (since most rescues ARE homeless).

Would be more appreciative to be honest.

Thank you and forthcoming green to you too!

My new little kitteh was a stray. She showed up at my door three days in a row, and she's been here ever since. I just love-love her.

Well, cats have been on my mind a lot lately since my cat died back on February 14th...

Awww, I'm sorry....hugs

My Easter-kitty passed after being with me for almost 18 years. It just about killed me when she passed, but it was also a long, drawn out thing, her passing. She wanted to pass naturally, not via euthanasia.

That was over a decade ago, and about a year ago I finally started thinking about getting another kitteh. I thought and thought and thought...harhar, and I thought myself right into the universe taking care of it for me, by dropping this little one on my doorstep.

She's such a kitten - all claws and teeth comin' at me too much of the time - but I love her very much.

I hope you find a good lil kitteh for yourself, but you might have to wait a little while to get over the raw feeling you have.

They are a joy to have around, even though my blood has spilled numerous times...tounge
